Loaded Questions Announces Contest Winners

Five people took home a cool $5,000 each after their “loaded question” was picked to be included in revised editions of the board game, Loaded Questions. The game combines elements of Trivial Pursuit, The Newlywed Game, and Scattergories.

Players are asked open-ended questions such as “What is a totally inappropriate activity for a first date?” or “If you were to make yourself more attractive, what would you do?” After submitting their answers anonymously, players take turn guessing who gave what answer. The winner of the game is the person who knows the other players best.

Bella Sara Debuts New Sunflowers Set

LEGO Sculptor to Depict Endangered Animals at Philly Zoo

LEGO will recreate endangered animals and their vanishing eco-systems in a new exhibition at the Philadelphia Zoo. Creatures of Habitat: A Gazillion-Piece Animal Adventure will feature dozens of animals made out of thousands of tiny LEGO bricks.

The brick depictions—created by Sean Kenney, one of nine LEGO-sanctioned sculptors in the world—will be scattered throughout the 42-acre garden. Visitors can use a special field guide to explore each station and find out how they can help save the species.

Creatures of Habitat will debut on April 10, and run for five months.

Dover Publications Creates Sesame Street Line

Dover Publications has partnered with Sesame Workshop to create a line of activity books, paper dolls, stained glass coloring books, stickers, and tattoos based on Sesame Street. The sticker books feature Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and Elmo to teach kids about the colors blue, yellow, and red, while the temporary tattoos—featuring Zoe, The Count, and Grover—help kids learn numbers.

Animax to Manage Ty Girlz Virtual World

Animax Entertainment has signed on to manage the online efforts of the Ty Girlz brand by Ty, Inc. The partnership launched today with a new “freemium” free-to-play model.

New virtual goods, online games and activities, support for micropayments, and a loyalty program has premiered in the tween-targeted virtual world.  Original entertainment, licensed merchandise, online media, and extensions to mobile devices and other social network platforms for both moms and kids will also be implemented.

Since its global launch in April 2007, the Ty Girlz line has expanded to three dozen dolls and ancillary product lines including clothing, accessories, and pets.

Toys “R” Us Stops Selling Planet Frog

Toys “R” Us has become the latest retailer to agree to stop selling the miniature aquarium, Planet Frog. Biologists, wildlife specialists, and PETA have warned that aquariums such as Planet Frog, which houses two frogs in crowded conditions, are too small and inhumane. Confining the energetic animals to cramped spaces can slowly poison the creatures by their own waste.

Target, JCPenney, Rite Aid, Walgreens, and Albertsons have also discontinued sales of the tanks.

Nintendo Announces New Products at Media Summit

Nintendo of America issued a surge of new information about what consumers can expect from the company in the coming months. The new Nintendo DSi XL hand-held system launches March 28 at a suggested retail price of $189.99.The screens of the Nintendo DSi XL are 93 percent larger than those of the Nintendo DS Lite model, designed to provide a more vivid and engaging play experience.

The screens of the Nintendo DSi XL also feature a wider viewing angle, letting friends and family members join the fun. The new system launches in both burgundy and bronze colors, and comes loaded with pre-installed premium software Brain Age Express: Arts & LettersBrain Age Express: Math, and Photo Clock, as well as two free applications: the Nintendo DSi Browser and Flipnote Studio. Nintendo DSi XL will also come with a larger pen-like stylus that allows for a more comfortable grip and enhanced ease of use when playing games that use the Nintendo DS touch screen.

Manhattan Toy Releases New Dr. Seuss Toys

Manhattan Toy has introduced six new Dr. Seuss toys, featuring the classic characters One Fish Two Fish and Cat in the Hat.

The Cat in the Hat Activity Cat includes a crinkle flap mirror, ribbons, teether paws, as well as a squeaker in one foot and a rattle in the other. The Cat in the Hat Wiggle Ball jiggles when the attached yellow star is pulled, and features Cat in the Hat prints and crinkle paper flaps.
