The NPD Group reported that the Nintendo Switch gaming system was the best-selling video game hardware during the month of April. More than 280,000 Nintendo Switch gaming units were sold.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe saw more than 460,000 physical units sold, making it the top-selling video game in April. The total reaches more than 550,000 units when digital sales are included. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was launched April 28, and the reported sales came from a two-day period before the cut off on April 29.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game for Nintendo Switch was the third-highest-selling game in April, and the game’s content will expand this summer and holiday season with the launch of two DLC packs. The DLC can be pre-ordered with an Expansion Pass.
Other games that experienced significant sales in April were 1-2-Switch and the digital-only Snipperclips—Cut it out, together!
Summer releases for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS include Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (Nintendo 3DS, May 19), Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers from Capcom (Nintendo Switch, May 26), ARMS (Nintendo Switch, June 16), Ever Oasis (Nintendo 3DS, June 23) and Splatoon 2 (Nintendo Switch, July 21). Nintendo 3DS games Hey! Pikmin and Miitopia both launch on July 28, which is the same day Nintendo’s newest hand-held gaming system, New Nintendo 2DS XL, is set to release.
