NPD Reports May 2017 Video Game Sales

npd-group copyTotal industry spending for video game hardware, software, and accessories from Apr. 30 to May 3, 2017 declined 11 percent to $542 million compared to last year, according to analysis from The NPD Group.

Video games hardware sales compared to the same period last year increased 7 percent from $138 million last year to $147 million this year; video games software decreased 20 percent from $339 million last year to $271 million this year; and video games accessories increased 1 percent from $111 million last year to $112 million this year.

The top 10 games based on dollar sales in April across all platforms are Injustice 2, Mario Kart 8, Grand Theft Auto V, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Prey 2017, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, NBA 2K17, MLB 17: The Show, Overwatch, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege.
