A Mary Poppins Sequel is Coming to Theaters December 2018

Golden Globe Award winner Emily Blunt will star as Mary Poppins, and Emmy, Grammy, Tony Award, and Pulitzer Prize winner Lin-Manuel Miranda will play a new character named Jack in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns on Dec. 25, 2018.

The story will take place in Depression-era London and follows a now-grown Jane, Michael Banks, and Michael’s three children. Mary Poppins visits the family following a personal loss, and with her magical skills and the help of Jack, she assists the family in finding joy and wonder once again in their lives.

The film reunites the director and producing team behind Disney’s musical film Into the Woods. Oscar nominee, Emmy and DGA Award winner Rob Marshall will direct the film, while Marshall, Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee John Deluca and Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt will produce the film. Oscar nominee and Tony award winner Marc Shaiman will compose an all-new score with original songs from Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Scott Wittman.

P.L. Travers’ 1934 book Mary Poppins was made into a film in Aug. 1964 and starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. It won five Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Andrews.
