David Gibson Wins 2016 North American Scrabble Championship

The North American Scrabble Players Association crowned David Gibson of South Carolina as the winner of the 2016 North American Scrabble Championship.

Gibson outscored 400 other Scrabble players, including previous champions Matthew Tunnicliffe and Joel Sherman, and holds the title for the second time, first winning in 1994. He won the championship trophy and $10,000.

Players proceeded through spelling ranks according to their records and points scored against opponents. Gibson defeated Dr. Ian Weinstein of Coral Springs, Florida by more than 26 points, leaving him with a final score of 397-371. The game-winning words were drearies, serrano, orcinolis, and spelter.

Warner Bros. Releases First DLC Content for Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

2562Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released the first downloadable content for the Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens season pass.

The Prequel Trilogy Character Pack allows players to play as characters such as Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, Jango Fett, Jar Jar Binks, Padme Naberrie, Captain Panaka, and more. Vehicles, including the Naboo Starfighter, will also be playable.

The Freemaker Adventures Character Pack features characters from the Lego animated series. Playable characters include Graballa the Hut, Naare, Baash, and Raam.

The downloadable content is available now for Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Toys “R” Us Searches for President of Play

Toys R Us President of Play LogoToys “R” Us launched a nationwide hunt to fill the company’s newest job: President of Play. One kid between ages 9 to 13 will be selected to to spend a year playing with new toys and games and provide recommendations to parents and gift-givers. Wild Republic Unveils New Look

Final WR_LogoWild Republic revealed its new logo to coincide with the company’s growth.

The original logo, which made its debut in 1999 with it popular hanging monkey line, represented the company’s line of stuffed animals. The new logo is a vivid orange, with the monkey hanging inside the “D” of Wild. The color stands for adventure, while the new monkey stands for the company’s realism of each species in its products.

Moose Toys to Launch Two New Lines of Collectible Figures

Moose ToysMoose Toys will launch two new collectible brands at major retailers this fall, The Grossery Gang and Twozies.

The Grossery Gang is designed to look like every day snacks found at a convenience store, with more than 150 pint-sized characters such as Putrid Pizza and Fungus Fries. Limited Edition characters will include Faked Beans and Shoccoli Broccoli.

Twozies combines babies and pets, and includes pairs such as Jangles and Bangles, the baby and pet giraffe. As soon as collectors create a match, they can display their pair in a shadow box, which is included in each Twozies surprise pack.

Scholastic, American Girl Sign Global Publishing Deal

American GirlScholastic will launch a publishing program based on the American Girl brand. The multi-year agreement includes the right to publish books in print and digital formats in 2017, and the deal marks the first time that American Girl has licensed the rights to publish books based on its characters. The new Furby reacts to sound and touch, and speaks more than 1,000 phrases. It also knows what day it is, the time of day, and will say phrases that correspond to the different points of the day. With the Furby World Connect app, owners can use Bluetooth to play and interact with their Furbies. In addition, Hasbro has teamed up with Kidz Bop and Junkin Media to create music and videos content.
