COMMENTARY: Disney’s Frozen Toys Will Melt Your Heart

The thing that I like most about Disney’s Frozen was that it played with the idea of a typical Disney Princess movie. It touches on the idea of falling in love and being engaged within hours of meeting each other and changes the way the audience thinks about typical princesses and princes. There is, of course, a curse that’s lifted by “an act of true love,” but this act comes from (spoiler alert!) one of sisterly love rather than romantic love. A lot of the plot is focuses on the two royal sisters, Anna and Elsa, and the animation is so spectacular as it brings this truly magical story to life.

To go along with this great movie, Mattel has introduced an entire line of toys that capture the lively, magical spirit of Frozen. With quirky characters (Olaf!), Frozen quickly becomes a new Disney favorite, and the toys are sure to have the same effect on any toy box.

MusicalDollsOne of my favorite toys from this line is the Disney Frozen Musical Magic Elsa and Anna Dolls. These dolls feature glittery and glamorous gowns, but I think also do a fantastic job of capturing the familial bonds that are so important to the movie’s story. When kids hold the dolls hands, the dolls hold each other’s hands, OR you create a circle of humans and dolls holding hands, Anna and Elsa magically light up and play enchanting music.

Mattel’s Disney Frozen Castle and Ice Palace Playset is an expandable playset that turns into the two gorgeous homes from the movie—Anna’s Castle and Elsa’s Ice Palace. This play set captures all the great storytelling aspects of the film, with movie-inspired furniture and play pieces, including a throne, a bed, a chaise, vanities, a mountain slide, and, of course, an Olaf figure. Kids can castlerecreate the storyline from the movie, or they can use their imaginations to build and expand with all of the available Frozen dolls (not included in the play set). It’s double the fun for kids two play in both worlds.

olafThe Frozen toy line expands beyond just Mattel. Just Play has created Pull Apart and Talkin’ Olaf. The adorable and endearing snowman comes to life with this pull-apart plush. His nose, head, and torso all temporarily separate and then safely rejoin. These moments are a bit of a struggle for him in the film, but make this talking plush an adorable addition to any plush collection. And that plush collection can keep on growin’ with the Disney Store‘s assortment of plush characters from Frozen. Characters include Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf.

In case you’re planning on running for the hills like Elsa (literally) did, Jakks Pacific has introduced the Rolling Travel Trunk. Kids can dress up like Anna and Elsa with the two dresses and tons of accessories, then pack everything up and roll the trunk to the next destination. It’s definitely a must for every busy little princess’ collection.

I would definitely recommend this heartwarming Disney movie to everyone this holiday season (It also has a great soundtrack!), and the toys are just an added bonus. They really drive home the importance of all different kinds of love—although it’s main focus is on families, the story does not slight those of you looking for romance as well—and create magic through those bonds (such as the Musical Magic Elsa and Anna Dolls). Whether you’re like Elsa, who was never bothered by the cold, or Olaf, who fondly dreams of feeling the summer’s heat, these Frozen toys are sure to melt your heart.
