Cosmos-Maya, the India- and Singapore-based animation studio behind the WowKidz channels, is getting into the sales and distribution game.

The company launched WowKidz Distribution in an effort to bolster its strategy to become a “global content gateway.” Cosmos-Maya says that content acquisition is a key focus for its new division and that it plans to debut WowKidz Distribution with a dedicated acquisitions team on the ground at MIPCOM, taking place Oct. 14-17 in Cannes, France.

“Our production might is one of our biggest strengths as a studio, and we have been distributing our own content successfully across APAC,” says Anish Mehta, CEO of Cosmos-Maya. “Thereby, venturing further into the distribution arena with successful international brands through WowKidz Distribution was the next logical and synergistic business decision.”

Cosmos-Maya says that it will “leverage the extensive network of Emerald Media,” a Pan-Asian media investment platform backed by U.S. private equity firm KKR. KKR (formerly Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), which made headlines as part of the Toys “R” Us-leveraged buyout and subsequent bankruptcy, took a controlling stake in Cosmos-Maya through Emerald Media last year.
