Electronic Arts previewed its fall and winter game releases at this year’s Hot for the Holidays press event. EA Games Label, EA Sports, Maxis, and EA Mobile and Social demoed the upcoming games, which represent a wide range of ages and interests, from action and sports to city-building simulation and kid-friendly animal games.
Under the Maxis Label, EA is releasing The Sims 3 Supernatural Expansion Pack in September. Players can give their Sims supernatural lives as werewolves, witches, vampires, and fairies. While playing as supernatural Sims, players will discover new abilities, traits, skills, and interactions that enhance their gameplay, including delayed aging for fairies and vampires, innate magic channeling for witches, and lycanthropy for werewolves, which enables them to control their animal instincts and transform at will.
Curse or charm Sims’ lives with powerful spells, volatile elixirs, and magical abilities in a world of strange happenings, spooky surprises, and the occasional zombie attack. A zombification elixir will turn unsuspecting Sims into brain-hungry, shuffling monsters that are driven to wreak havoc on the town. As part of the integration between The Sims and PopCap’s Plants vs. Zombies, those who pre-order The Sims 3 Supernatural will receive a limited edition version, which features an exclusive Plants vs. Zombies content pack. Players with this content can ward off attacking zombies in their game with the Pea Shooter from Plants vs. Zombies and dress their Sims with zombie-themed attire.
Maxis will also release a new SimCity game in February, engaging a new generation of city-builders and allowing players to address global challenges such as climate change, the search for renewable resources, and natural disasters. SimCity Social became live on Facebook this week.
Medal of Honor Warfighter, from EA Games, puts players in the boots of today’s most elite warriors to experience missions that have a dotted line to real world terrorist incursions. Featuring real-world hotspots in the single-player campaign and introducing international Tier 1 Operators in multiplayer mode, the game gives players a window into the look and style of elite solders from 10 different countries around the world. The game releases on October 23 in North America and on October 26 in Europe.
Need for Speed Most Wanted, which releases October 30 in North America and November 1 in Europe, was also previewed. Criterion Games is reimagining the Need for Speed franchise’s bestselling game, Need for Speed Most Wanted, with Criterion’s Autolog technology to integrate friends into the game. Designed for a new generation of adrenaline junkies and fierce online social competitors, players are thrust into a sprawling open world packed with action, where they can choose their own path to become the most wanted among rivals, cops, and friends.
New from EA Sports, FIFA 13 captures all the drama and unpredictability of real-world soccer. The game creates a true battle for possession across the entire pitch, delivers freedom and creativity in attack, and connects fans to the sport and each other through the EA Sports Football Club. Releasing this fall, FIFA 13 features five breakthrough gameplay innovations, which revolutionize artificial intelligence, dribbling, ball control, and physical play. EA Sports’ other upcoming releases include Madden NFL 13 (August 28), NHL 13 (September 11), and NCAA Football 13 (July 10).
EA Mobile and Social’s upcoming iOS games include World Series of Poker, Need for Speed Most Wanted, FIFA 13, Scrabble (also releasing for Facebook and Android), Puzzle Craft, Happy Squirrels, Jelly Jumpers, Critter Escape, Zooniverse, and Tanglers.
