Late Easter Expected to Bring Record Spending, NRF Says

U.S. consumers will spend more than ever as the Easter holiday is nearly three weeks later this year than last, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF). According to NRF’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, spending for Easter is expected to reach $18.4 billion, up 6 percent over last year’s record $17.3 billion and a new all-time high in the survey’s 14-year history. Sesame Workshop Introduces Julia, a Muppet with Autism

Sesame Workshop announced a new phase of its autism initiative Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children, which welcomes Julia, a Muppet with autism. Moose Toys, Build-A-Bear Workshop Enter Licensing Agreement

Moose Toys signed a licensing agreement with Build-A-Bear Workshop for an assortment of Shopkins plush and accessories that will launch at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and buildabear.com late this summer. The global agreement, brokered by The Licensing Shop Inc., covers Build-A-Bear Workshop locations in the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Puerto Rico, the UK, and China, in addition to franchise stores in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Mexico, and the Middle East. Finalists Revealed for 2017 U.S. Bananagrams Challenge

Twelve students are heading to the Grand Final of the U.S. Bananagrams Challenge in Rhode Island on April 1. The group defeated 15,000 other fourth through sixth graders throughout New England to earn a place in the final and will now compete to be crowned America’s "Top Banana." Read more…

Radio Flyer Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Radio Flyer launched a digital ad campaign in honor of the company's 100th anniversary.
 
The campaign started with the company's first-ever travel agency for kids, which opened for one day on March 18 in Chicago. The travel agency let kids imagine destinations that can only be reached with Radio Flyer vehicles. Read more…

Iconic Thimble, Boot, and Wheelbarrow Monopoly Tokens Don’t Pass GO

The fans have spoken: The eight tokens set to "pass GO" in the next generation of Hasbro's Monopoly game are the Scottie dog, top hat, car, battleship, cat, T. rex, rubber ducky, and penguin tokens. The iconic thimble, boot, and wheelbarrow tokens, which are in the current game, will be replaced by the T. rex, rubber ducky, and penguin tokens in the next iteration of the game, coming out this fall. Faber-Castell Launches Target Collection Nationwide

Faber-Castell launches its Premium Children's Art Products brands at Target stores nationwide. The 12-piece collection is set to debut this week, and will include spring-inspired kits and classic staples for kids.
 
New products available include the Paint by Numbers Museum Series, Sunflowers, Do Art Watercolor Pencil Art, and Young Artist Learn to Paint Set.

NPD Reports February 2017 Video Game Sales

Total industry spending for video game hardware, software, and accessories from Jan. 29 to Feb. 25, 2017 declined 21 percent to $724 million compared to last year, according to analysis from The NPD Group. Read more…
