Nearly 140 First-Time Exhibitors to Participate at ASTRA's Marketplace

One hundred and thirty-eight toy manufacturers will participate for the first time at the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association's (ASTRA) upcoming Marketplace & Academy. The exhibit hall, ASTRA's largest ever, is sold out.
 
Companies will show products that are not available yet anywhere, giving specialty retailers the opportunity to be the first to offer them in their communities. ASTRA's Marketplace & Academy will be held from June 25 to 28 in Philadelphia.

Simba Toys Becomes Major Shareholder of Zimpli Kids

Simba Toys is now a major shareholder of Zimpli Kids. The partnership first began in 2014 when Simba Toys became a distributor of Zimpli Kids products.
 
In those three years, Simba Toys has launched a German version of Gelli Baff, Gibbi, which has been in The NPD Group’s top three bath toys in Germany each year.

Toys "R" Us Launches Campaign to Support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Toys “R” Us launched a fundraising campaign in stores and online through June 12 to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This is the first of a three-year partnership with St. Jude, in which Toys “R” Us and the Toys “R” Us Children’s Fund have committed to raising $7 million to ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
 
Customers can donate at any Toys “R” Us or Babies “R” Us location across the U.S. or online at Toysrus.com/GivingIsAwesome. In addition, between April 23 and April 29, Toys “R” Us will donate $1 to St. Jude (up to $25,000) for every retweet of a special #GivingIsAwesome moment @Toysrus retweet.

WBIE, Disney to Make Cars 3 Racing Game

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) and Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media are creating Cars 3: Driven to Win, a competitive racing game that features the characters from the upcoming Disney•Pixar Cars 3 film. Developed by Avalanche Software, newly reopened under WBIE, the game will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, and Wii U on June 13. Read more…

Disney Debuts Rogue One: As Told by Lego

Disney debuted Rogue One: As Told by Lego, the second episode of its digital series created in collaboration with Lego. The stop-motion animation video tackles the Lucasfilm narrative of The Battle of Scarif in less than three minutes. Jyn Erso and her team of Rebels attempt to steal the plans to destroy the Death Star.
 
This Star Wars-themed episode goes inside the imagination of young Billy, who uses a “briefcase” as the Imperial base on the tropical planet of Scarif to re-create the Star Wars world in his bedroom and bring to life his own epic stories.

Bananagrams Names Challenge Winner

Fifth grader Kaede Shimamura from Lyndon Town School in Lyndon, Vt. has defeated 15,000 other fourth through sixth graders throughout New England to win the 2017 U.S. Bananagrams Challenge. Shimamura has been crowned ‘Top Banana’ after triumphing over 11 other kids at the live Grand Final of the word tile game tournament, held on April 1 at the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket, R.I. home state of Bananagrams. Lego City Undercover Available Now

Lego City Undercover, from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, and The Lego Group, is available now. In the game, players must assume the identity of undercover police officer, Chase McCain, and track down the fiendish Rex Fury to put an end to his city-wide crime wave.
