Toy State, The Walt Disney Co. Partner for Marvel R/C

Toy State partnered with The Walt Disney Co. to develop products based on the Marvel Comics property. The new partnership grants Toy State the right to expand its licensed vehicles with key superheroes from the Marvel Universe. Skyrocket Toys, Marvel Partner for Spider-Man: Homecoming Drones

Skyrocket Toys partnered with Marvel to reveal new, high-tech drones inspired by the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film. Skyrocket Toys designed the functional replica of Spider-Man's surveillance drone from the film, complete with the free Spider-Drone app.
 
The Spider-Man Drone will be available exclusively at Walmart on June 4. Additionally, the Spider-Man Streaming Video Spider-Drone, will be available exclusively at Toys “R” Us on July 1.

New Shopkins Feature Set for October Release

The second movie in the Shopkins franchise, Shopkins: World Vacation, is scheduled for release in October by the Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Content Group.
 
The film follows the release of the first Shopkins movie, Shopkins: Chef Club. The new film brings the Shoppies and Shopkins out of Shopville on a vacation won by Kooky Cookie. When she takes her friends to London, they encounter the Biscuit Bandits and are thrust into an adventure across London, Paris, and Tokyo.
 
The release of the film adds to the growing Shopkins franchise, which saw more than 10 million downloads of the Shopkins World gaming app, 250 million views of Shopkins animated videos on YouTube, and 12 million streams of their songs. A Shopkins live stage show is set to tour the U.S. this September.

Sony Pictures Consumer Products Appoints Just Play as Master Toy Partner for The Emoji Movie

Sony Pictures Consumer Products appointed Just Play as master toy partner for The Emoji Movie, along with licensee partners across multiple categories to support the film's consumer products program.
 
This summer, Just Play will introduce a new line of toys including blind bags, collectible figures, light-up figures, and plush toys inspired by characters from the film. Read more…

Jakks Pacific Appointed as Master Toy Licensee for Mega Man

DHX Brands and Dentsu Entertainment USA appointed Jakks Pacific Inc. as worldwide master toy licensee—excluding Asia—for their co-produced animated series Mega Man. The deal was brokered by CPLG North America.
 
The multi-year license agreement allows Jakks to exclusively manufacture, market, and distribute a range of consumer products, including action figures, figurines, play sets, accessories, dress-up and role-play, Halloween costumes, plush, and vehicles. Read more…

eOne Adds Content, New Global Partners for Peppa Pig

Entertainment One (eOne) started production on a new series of Peppa Pig. The show's animation studio, Astley Baker Davies, will produce the new series, bringing the total number of Peppa Pig episodes to 381.
 
New episodes from Series 7 continue to roll out on air through the end of next year. The 117 new episodes currently in production will then launch on air globally from in the spring of 2019, to coincide with the brand’s 15th anniversary, and will secure a pipeline of Peppa Pig content over the following four years. ASTRA Adds Industry Service Pavilion to Marketplace & Academy

An Industry Service Pavilion will be available for attendees on the exhibit floor at American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA)'s 2017 Marketplace & Academy.
 
ASTRA affiliate partners participating in the Industry Service Pavilion may provide show-only specials and additional resources to ASTRA attendees who visit the pavilion.
 
Marketplace & Academy will be held from June 25 to 28 in Philadelphia, Penn.

YouTube Personality JoJo Siwa Unveils New Consumer Products Line with Just Play, Spin Master, Rubie’s, and More

The global consumer products program for 14-year-old singer, dancer, performer, and social media influencer JoJo Siwa will include products across multiple categories in the U.S. and markets including the UK, Australia, and Canada. Select items in the JoJo Siwa consumer products line are available in stores now in the U.S.
 
Danskin will introduce its first kids’ co-branded dance, athleisure, and accessories collection. The collection will launch next spring and will feature leotards, tights, dance skirts, tutus, legwarmers, fashion tops, sweatshirts, hoodies, leggings, skorts, joggers, sportsbras, biketards, crop tops, dance bags, backpacks, totes, purses, and headwear. Play Fair Introduces Preview Night

The second annual Play Fair introduces its first Industry Preview Night for members of the media and toy industry professionals on Nov. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m., the evening before Play Fair opens to the public. The event will offer press, buyers, and industry professionals advance access to exhibitors, talent, entertainment, and play experiences. Preview Night attendees will also receive a first look at the nominees for The Toy Association’s 2018 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards. Read more…

Snapchat, Facebook Fueling AR Growth

This year, 40 million Americans will engage with some form of augmented reality (AR) monthly, up 30.2 percent over last year, according to eMarketer's first forecast on AR and virtual reality (VR). Snapchat Lenses and Facebook and Instagram Stories are fueling much of this growth, while VR usage is driven by 360-degree videos on social networks. Read more…

Mattel Introduces New Mega Construx Despicable Me Construction Line

Mattel debuts new Mega Contstrux Despicable Me 3 construction sets ahead of the movie's release next month.
 
The new products include the Mega Construx Micro Action Figure Series, Despicable Me 3 Cheese Festival Assortment, Mini Vehicle Assortment, Agnes and Minion Feature Pack Assortments, Gru's Water Motorbike, Family Luau Party, and Dru's Transforming Vehicle.
 
The toys are designed for kids ages 5 and up, and are available now in stores nationwide. Despicable Me 3 will releases in theaters on June 30.

The Jim Henson Co., McFarlane Toys Partner for Figures Inspired by Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal

The Jim Henson Co. partnered with McFarlane Toys to create figures based on characters from two of Henson’s features, Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.
 
McFarlane Toys will produce fully-articulated action figures that are replicas of the on-screen characters. The toys will feature a 7-inch figure of Labyrinth’s Jareth the Goblin King, as well as Jen and Kira figures inspired by their The Dark Crystal characters. These figures will also debut in new window box collector packaging and come with Labyrinth- and The Dark Crystal-branded bases.
 
Jareth the Goblin King figure will be available at major retailers this November, and Jen and Kira figures are expected to be available next spring.

Funko Acquires Loungefly

Funko LLC acquired the contemporary fashion accessories company Loungefly. Financial terms were not disclosed.
 
Loungefly, a Southern California-based company sells a selection of handbags and fashion accessories under various licensed brands such as Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Sanrio, and Pokémon. Products are sold through specialty stores, boutiques, and department stores around the country.
 
Funko designs, sources, and distributes collectible products through multiple categories. It also recently announced its acquisition of certain assets of Underground Toys Ltd. in London.

Hasbro Opens Ticket Sales for HASCON

Hasbro opened ticket sales for its first HASCON FANmily event. Single-day tickets, three-day tickets, and VIP packages are now available for purchase worldwide.
 
The event will feature multiple appearances and meet and greets, including Transformers films producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Stan Lee, original Transformers voices Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, “Chewbacca Mom,” and more. Read more…

ThinkGeek is set to launch the ThinkGeek Capsule, a limited edition service that delivers different “geeky” items to its customers’ doors every month. The subscription service will include three Capsules with ThinkGeek merchandise valued at more than $50.
 
Merchandise will include T-Shirts, pins, desktop replicas, household essentials, art prints, and more. Featured brands include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, FallOut 4, and Harry Potter. Read more…

NPD Reports April 2017 Video Game Sales

Total industry spending for video game hardware, software, and accessories from Apr. 2 to 29, 2017 grew 10 percent to $636 million compared to last year, according to analysis from The NPD Group. Read more…
