Nintendo to Launch Super NES Classic Edition

Nintendo will re-launch the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition—originally launched in 1991 as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System—as an upgraded mini 16-bit system. The system can be plugged into any high-definition TV using the included HDMI cable. The new nostalgic console will launch on Sept. 29.
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition has the same look and feel of the original system—only smaller—and comes pre-loaded with 21 games, including Contra III: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, Final Fantasy III, F-Zero, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Course, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!, and Yoshi's Island.
The console will come with one HDMI cable, one USB charging cable with AC adapter, and two wired Super NES Classic Controllers, allowing for multiplayer games.

Fat Brain Toys, Make: Launch Kidventor Challenge

Fat Brain Toys and Make: teamed up to launch Kidventor Challenge. The contest gives kids in first through sixth grade an opportunity to submit toy or game ideas for the chance for Fat Brain Toys to bring the concept to market.
The winner will also receive a $2,500 advance scholarship, a licensing agreement that offers the opportunity to earn additional royalties, and round trip airfare with hotel accommodations for two to the 2018 North American International Toy Fair in New York City. Read more…

Shopkins Come to Life with Pop-Up Café

The Shopkins Macaron Café opened the doors to the public for a limited time from June 17 to 20. Over the course of the four days, hundreds of passionate Shopkins fans got to experience the pop-up café. Fans were required to make reservations online, which sold out in less than a minute after going live.
The limited time pop-up experience gave fans a close look at Shopkins Season 8: World Vacation with a product display wall and a Shopkins Season 8 play station. Fans also received Shopkins manicures and were able to take photos with Shopkins displays, including a wall of more than 1,600 Shopkins characters.

Hasbro, Nintendo Join Forces for Monopoly Gamer Edition

Hasbro and Nintendo have partnered to bring iconic Nintendo characters and new game play to the Monopoly game board.
The Monopoly Gamer edition brings elements from Super Mario games, such as beating bosses, winning coins, and more, and characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, and Yoshi, to the Monopoly game board. Read more…

Crayola, Sally Hansen Collaborate for Nostalgic Nail Polish Collection

Crayola and Sally Hansen teamed up to release three new nail polish collections inspired by some of Crayola's most iconic hues.
The first collection features 12 new nail polish shades, including Razzmatazz, Cerulean, and Carnation Pink. Each bottle is decorated with the Crayola squiggle. The partnership will last for one year and the bottles will be available at drugstores nationwide starting this month.

Lego Group to Release 15 New Building Sets Based on The Lego Ninjago Movie

A collection of 15 building sets and series of collectible Lego Minifigures based on The Lego Ninjago Movie will hit the shelves in August.
The sets are inspired by moments, mechs, and characters from the film. Along with the new sets, the Lego adds 20 Lego Minifigure characters—which feature mini versions of characters in the film—to the series of blind bag packed collectible figures.
Sets will be released August through December of this year, including the Spinjitzu Training Dojo, the Temple of Ultimate Trials, Ice Tank, Ninjago City, and garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON!
The film opens worldwide Sept. 22.

ASTRA Members Elect New Representatives to Board of Directors

Members of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) elected three specialty toy industry leaders to its Board of Directors at ASTRA's Marketplace & Academy today in Philadelphia. The new representatives are Chair-elect Dee Farrell of Neat-Oh International; retailer Amy Saldanha of kiddywampus; and manufacturer Kevin McGrath from The Original Toy Co.
Eric Quam of Fat Brain Toy Co. assumed the rule of Chair of the ASTRA Board of Directors, who has served as a Chair-elect for the past year.
