Toys "R" Us Rebrands with "Today we Play"

Toys "R" Us officially announced its new brand positioning as "Today we Play," encouraging kids to go out and play, citing that kids today have less free time to play. Toy State, Feld Entertainment Partner to Expand Monster Jam Portfolio

Toy State partnered with Feld Entertainment to expand the Monster Jam portfolio. The three-year, multi-territory agreement grants Toy State construction toy category rights for the development of Monster Jam-branded toys within the company’s Machine Maker product line.
As part of the expansion of the Machine Maker line, Toy State will incorporate Monster Jam trucks including Grave Digger, Max-D, El Toro Loco, and Monster Mutt. The line currently features popular Caterpillar construction machines within the play sets and vehicles found at major retailers globally. The new toys will be available at retailers next spring.
The partnership follows the recent announcement that Toy State was named master toy licensee for the new Netflix Original Preschool Series, True and the Rainbow Kingdom. The company also recently released a range of Nikko Air racing drones through its licensing partnership with Drone Racing League (DRL), which was announced late last year.

LEGO Remains Top Selling Toy Brand on Amazon

According to One Click Retail's brand measurement calculations, the top five highest-selling toy brands on Amazon are LEGO, Fisher-Price, Melissa & Doug, Little Tikes, and Step2.
These toy brands, which retain their rankings from last year, account for 30 percent of year-to-date toy sales on Amazon. One Click Retail has calculated first-party toy sales at $970 million year to date, a 9 percent year-over-year increase. Last Year, total Amazon toy sales reached a record $4 billion, capturing 20 percent of the total toys market in the U.S. Read more…

Jakks Pacific Signs Global Master Toy Agreement for Disney•Pixar's Incredibles 2

Jakks Pacific Inc. has entered into a multi-year, global master toy licensing deal with Disney Consumer Products for Disney•Pixar's Incredibles 2. The deal also includes master toy rights for the 2004 film The Incredibles.
Under the terms of the worldwide agreement, JAKKS will manufacture, market, and distribute action figures and accessories, including mini-figures and collectible figures, play sets, interactive toys, preschool toys, role-play and dress-up accessories, novelty toys, radio control toy vehicles, toy vehicles including die-cast and plastic, as well as associated play sets.
Incredibles 2 is the follow-up to the 2004 animated feature film The Incredibles, about the adventures of a family with superpowers. The original film was a blockbuster hit at the box office, grossing more than $600 million worldwide during its original theatrical run and winning two Academy Awards.

TOMY International Launches Games Division

TOMY International Inc., the subsidiary of TOMY Company Ltd., formed TOMY Games Group, dedicated to building on the company’s preschool and family games. Previous games in TOMY's portfolio include Pop-Up Pirate, TOMY Water Games, Mr. Mouth, and Screwball Scramble.
New-to-the-U.S.-market introductions later this year includes Phil the Fridge, a fast-paced sorting game where players race to fill their fruit and veggie shapes into Phil before he pops open and spills the contents, and Fizzy Dizzy Hippo, where players take turns growing the Hippo's belly with a press of the fizzy drink and win when he or she makes the Hippo's belly pop.

ChizComm Launches kidsistr, New Commercial Production Company

ChizComm and Executive Producer Harvey Glazer launched a new, commercial production company, kidsistr. The joint venture will specialize in TV commercials, digital, and multipurpose sizzle reel productions, and will offer a fresh twist on commercial and content marketing.
A sister company of ChizComm Ltd., an international marketing and communications firm specializing in the toy and entertainment space, kidsistr’s executive team consists of President and CEO Harold Chizick, Executive Producer Harvey Glazer, and Executive Vice President Donna MacNeil. Read more…

Cra-Z-Art, Kodak Partner for Puzzle Collection

Cra-Z-Art entered a brand licensing agreement with Eastman Kodak Company to produce and distribute puzzles in the U.S. The puzzles will feature photo imagery and will be available in different size piece counts, including 100 pieces to 2,000 pieces.
Last year, Cra-Z-Art entered the puzzle category with the acquisition of Lafayette Puzzle Factory. According to the NPD market research group, puzzles and games was one of the fastest growing categories last year, increasing by 18 percent.
Cra-Z-Art's Kodak puzzles will be manufactured in the U.S. and are expected to be available at major retailers this fall.

Tinkertoy Introduces My Little Pony Building Sets

K’NEX Brands introduced Tinkertoy building sets inspired by the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, currently seen in 180 countries around the world.
The new products combine the Tinkertoy building system with the main characters from My Little Pony, both under license to K’NEX from Hasbro. The building sets launch this fall.

PlayMonster Adds Super Spinner Swing to Portfolio

PlayMonster LLC acquired the worldwide rights for outdoor children's swing Super Spinner.
The swing is an upgraded take on the tire swing, featuring a round seat, adjustable double-braided ropes, and weather-resistant clips. Made in the U.S., the Super Spinner holds multiple patents and is designed to swing and spin from a tree, a play set, or a secure structural beam. The swing comes fully assembled with the necessary hanging materials.
There are two Super Spinner versions currently available. The original Super Spinner can fit one or two kids, is engineered to hold up to 200 pounds, and is available in red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink. The Super Duper Spinner allows for more fun with multiple riders with a weight capacity of 650 pounds, and is available in hunter green.

ChiTAG Announces Preliminary Lineup and Theme

The 15th Annual Chicago Toy & Game Week (ChiTAG) will take place from Nov. 16 to 19, featuring the annual TAGIE awards and Young Inventors Challenge. The weeklong event brings together non-hobby toy and game brands, inventors, retailers, and distributors for attendees to play, celebrate, support, promote, and participate in the creation of toys and games.
The theme for ChiTAG 2017 is "Play for Peace." To celebrate the theme, this year's fair will feature a large-scale, 3-D motorized sculpture with water elements. The sculpture is one of the latest works from Jeffrey Breslow, an inventor in the toy and games industry prior to becoming a sculptor.
ChiTAG will also host the 10th Annual Toy and Game Inventor of the Year (TAGIE) Awards Gala on Friday, Nov. 17; the Young Inventor Challenge, which offers kids ages 6 to 18 the opportunity to showcase their original toy and game concepts and inventions to industry professionals, members of the media, and the general public; and Innovation Conferences that offer customized professional development and networking.

Chirp Partners with iOKids

Chirp partnered with Dynepic Inc. for the iOKids platform, a social gateway that enables kids' connections into the digital world.
Chirp and iOKids will create experiences where kids can securely connect with other children within close proximity. Kids will also be able to interact with objects they encounter in their day-to-day lives, inside and outside of the classroom, under the supervision of their parent or a teacher, and without necessarily having to connect online.
