Toy Industry Economic Impact in the U.S. Reaches $107.5 Billion

The toy industry’s annual total economic impact in the U.S. grew to $107.5 billion in 2017 from $80.25 billion in 2015, according to a new report from The Toy Association.
 
The data for 2017 indicates that the U.S. toy industry supports more than 677,000 jobs, generates $34.2 billion in wages for workers, and brings in $14.6 billion in combined state and federal tax revenue each year. According to the study, approximately 3 billion toys are sold across the U.S. per year, and while the average retail price of a toy is $10.14, the industry generates roughly $26.5 billion in direct U.S. retail toy sales and $90 billion in global retail toy sales annually. Wham-O to Launch Stay 'N Play Line

Wham-O will launch its new Stay 'N Play line, a mix of indoor party games for the whole family. The line includes an assortment of challenging and timed party and inflatable games.
 
Each of the 20 Stay 'N Play games will take between one and five minutes to complete, such as seeing who can use his or her body to shake the most ping pong balls out of a plastic container attached to his or her waist in a minute, or a race to see which team can throw the most balls into the plastic cups fastened to one teammate's arms and legs.
 
The line will be available in October next year, and orders are currently being accepted.

Horizon Group Expands STMT Line

Horizon Group USA will expand its line STMT kits with new themes. Inspired by what's hot in today's lifestyle trends, these DIY activities for teens have a trendy, modern touch such as designing jewelry to creating home-spa experiences.
 
The three new items in the line include the Hand Stamped Jewelry Kit, DIY Journal Set, and Bath Bombs kit. The new products are available now online and in-stores at Barnes & Noble, Nordstrom, Target, and Toys "R" Us.

Swimways Corp. Enters Distribution Partnership with Tucker Toys

Swimways Corp., a subsidiary of Spin Master Corp. entered a new distribution partnership with Tucker Toys. Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, Swimways will become the exclusive distributor in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Italy for Tucker Toys' Phlat Ball, Zoingo Boingo Pogo, Disc Jock-e, and Kite-A-Pult.

Disguise Launches Minecraft Costume Line

Disguise Inc., the Halloween costume division of Jakks Pacific Inc., launched the first Minecraft costumes and accessories collection. The line is available now at retailers nationwide. The costumes and accessories are based on characters from Minecraft, the sandbox video game where players mine and craft 3-D blocks in a world of varied biomes and terrain.
 
The costumes feature characters such as Steve, Alex, and Creeper. Full sets of diamond Minecraft Armor are also available. The pants and tunic are inspired by the game’s 3-D blocky aesthetic, with range of motion designed for trick-or-treating. The long-sleeve tunic features detailed character artwork on the front and print coverage on the back. The half-masks include a mesh eye-plate and a foam insert designed for comfort and range of vision.
 
Accessories are also available, including the Minecraft Sword and Minecraft Pickaxe. The line is available in child sizes 4 to 6, 7 to 8, and 10 to 12 at retailers nationwide.

Skyrocket LLC launched the Sky Viper V2450 GPS Streaming Video Drone, the company's latest drone. The new drone features a return-to-home button and a built-in GPS, and is made with ArduPilot firmware and uses positional awareness for easy navigation. Read more…

Voting Is Now Open for ChiTAG's 2017 TAGIE Awards

The Chicago Toy & Game Group named the nominees for the 10th Annual Toy & Games Innovation (TAGIE) Awards. Nominees for each category were selected by industry peers, and voting is now open for members of the media, industry, and public until Oct. 31. The 2017 TAGIE winners will be announced on Nov. 17 as part of the 15th Annual Chicago Toy & Game Week. Read more…

Thomas & Friends Refreshes Wood Collection

Mattel is refreshing the Thomas & Friends Wood line, coming out this fall at Toys "R" Us, for a simplified, updated, and sustainably sourced wood track. The line will feature kid-friendly universal connectors that fit every time; is still compatible with old adaptors; is made from responsibly sourced sustainable beech wood; and will include additional figures.

PBS KIDS Expands Multi-Year Partnership with Whole Foods

PBS KIDS continues its multi-year partnership with Whole Foods Market with a variety of toys, including a new line of sustainable wooden toys for children. Part of a new licensing partnership between PBS KIDS and Maxim Enterprise Inc., the new collection of PBS KIDS EverEarth products spans multiple product categories for both indoor and outdoor play. Additionally, PBS KIDS will debut eight new plush animals, made by Aurora, available exclusively at Whole Foods Market this holiday season. Read more…

NRF, Ascential PLC Form Global Partnership

The National Retail Federation and Ascential PLC, parent company of the World Retail Congress, entered a global partnership. The partnership will leverage the strengths of each group to help continue to provide their shared audiences with insight, networking opportunities, intelligence, and more in the years ahead.
 
Between NRF’s Retail’s Big Show and Shop.org and Ascential’s annual World Retail Congress, the two organizations host the premiere retail forums each year. The announcement was made by Shay and WRC Chairman Ian McGarrigle at Ascential’s Retail Congress Asia-Pacific conference in Hong Kong.
