Funko, in partnership with Sterling Publishing, is launching a new series of kids’ books based on its own designs and characters. The Wetmore Forest books and accompanying Funko merchandise will launch online and in-stores, exclusively at Barnes & Noble, June 15. The series features characters from Funko’s Pop! Monsters series, including Bugsy Wingnut, Tumblebee, Butterhorn, Snuggletooth and others.

The latest news follows the revelation of strong financial performance for 2018, in which the Washington-based purveyor of pop culture collectibles and consumer products saw net sales grow 33 percent, and net income increase a whopping 406 percent. The company is also opening a massive retail location on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles this fall.

“We’re excited to expand the storylines of our beloved Wetmore family through a book series available at the bookseller with the largest number of retail outlets in the United States,” says senior vice president of global sales, Johanna Gepford. “Children will be delighted to follow the adventures of characters created by the same creative geniuses that produce highly sought after Funko products.”

While Funko is primarily known for licensing third-party properties, Wetmore Forest marks a big step forward in the development and exploitation of in-house, original IP.
