This morning, following a tease yesterday, The LEGO Group officially revealed an interactive building set inspired by Super Mario and the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) gaming console.

Designed for adult LEGO fans, the 2646-piece set comes with bricks to build the NES console, a controller, and a retro TV with a flat 8-bit Mario figure on the screen, which scrolls when you turn a crank on the side. Once built, the set includes features such as a connecting cable and an opening slot for the Game Pak.

The set also interacts with the LEGO Mario figure from the previously announced LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (sold separately). Place him on top of the TV, and he will react to on-screen enemies, obstacles, and powerups as they scroll by.

This super-collectible set will be available from lego.com and LEGO stores starting on Aug. 1. It will be available at leading worldwide retailers starting next year.
