MGA Entertainment is taking a bold step into the entertainment side of its name.
The company behind L.O.L. Surprise!, Little Tikes, Bratz, and Rainbow High inked a multi-year licensing and content deal with Daewon Media, a South Korean company specializing in character development and animated media. Under the new agreement, MGA will develop, produce, and distribute a new video series based on Daewon’s Armored Saurus that mixes live-action with visual effects (VFX). MGA also holds toy and merchandising rights for the series.
“MGA continues to explore partnerships like this one as part of our growing entertainment focus and this agreement with Daewon Media is a big step in bringing fresh, innovative children’s content and products to a broader, global audience,” says MGA Entertainment Founder and CEO Isaac Larian. “We are eager to begin work on this new, action-packed series and accompanying toys and licensed products to introduce kids around the globe to the Armored Saurus world.”
Last year, Armored Saurus launched in South Korea. The series follows armored dinosaurs with mechanical powers and their trained pilots who fight against extraterrestrial invaders. Visually, the armored beasts are akin to the Megazords of Power Rangers if they were living dinosaurs wearing mech suits. Over the past year, clips from the series have made their way onto YouTube where they’ve connected with a global audience, including fans of other tech-enhanced dinosaur properties like Dino-Riders and ZOIDS.
MGA plans to reimagine the existing Armored Saurus series as 13 half-hour episodes with updated live-action footage, VFX, and storylines. MGA holds distribution rights for the property outside of South Korea, Japan, and China.
According to Daewon Media CEO Dong-Hoon Jung, the global rollout of new toys and licensed merchandise inspired by Armored Saurus is expected to take place in 2024.
