Analysis from The NPD Group shows that total video game sales from Oct. 2 to 29 was $875.7 million, up 6 percent from the same period last year.
Total video games hardware decreased 20 percent from this time last year from $270.3 million to $215.2 million.
“The 3DS experienced its fifth straight month of year-on-year growth. Both unit sales and consumer spending for October grew 12 percent as average pricing was flat year on year,” says NPD’s Video Game Analyst Sam Naji. “It is likely that continued consumer interest in the Pokémon franchise and Monster Hunter: Generations has driven this growth.”
The top 10 games based on dollar sales are Battlefield 1, Mafia III, Gears of War 4, FIFA 17, NBA 2K17, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, WWE 2K17, Civilization VI, Titanfall 2, and Madden NFL 17.
