Gamers Have a Date with Destiny After Midnight Tonight

DestinyAt 12:01 a.m. on September 9, Destiny, the new video game from Bungie and Activision Publishing Inc., will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. In Destiny, players are cast as a Guardian of the last city on Earth, able to explore the ruins of the solar system, which is a social universe populated with other players.

In addition to the story campaign, players can take their character into cooperative or competitive activity, including the ability to compete with or against friends in The Crucible, a competitive multiplayer mode featuring playlists and maps spanning diverse environments across the galaxy.

The Expansion Pass will extend the Destiny adventure after the launch of the game with two expansions. Both will include brand new story missions, cooperative activities and competitive multiplayer arenas, and a wealth of all new weapons, armor, and gear to earn. Expansion I will launch in December, with Expansion II following.

Smallest Skylanders Make Big Debut with Skylanders Minis

SkylandersMinis.SpryFans attending the recent Gamescom 2014 in Cologne, Germany, got a hands-on opportunity to play Skylanders Trap Team with cute, pocket-sized characters called Skylanders Minis. The new line of 16 characters, from Activision Publishing Inc., is playable with upgrades and abilities just like any other Skylanders, including the ability to trap villains.

The figures are roughly one-third the size of regular Skylanders playable with Skylanders Trap Team. The Skylanders Minis available for play at the Gamescom booth were Spry, Mini Jini, Drobit, Trigger Snappy, and Hijinx.

Skylanders Minis will be sold in two-packs and will be available at Wal-Mart.

Skylanders Trap Team First-To-Play Tour Launches at Comic-Con International: San Diego

SkylandersLogoActivision Publishing Inc. is kicking off a four-month, nationwide Skylanders Trap Team First-to-Play Tour, in which attendees can play Skylanders Trap Team inside a customized Game Truck, which serves as a mobile video game media room.

The tour will give fans a hands-on experience of the game prior to its North American launch on October 5. The first stops coincide with Comic-Con International: San Diego, and are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fans can visit the Game Truck at Interactive Zone, located at Petco Park’s Lexus Premier Lot, Imperial Avenue at 11th Avenue.

Sony’s PS4 News Includes Glacier White Console, Growing Game Portfolio, and YouTube

SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA LLC LOGOSony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) will introduce the first color variation for PlayStation 4 (PS4), in glacier white, which will be available worldwide starting this fall. Peripheral lineups will also expand with the glacier white DualShock 4 wireless controller and vertical stand, along with the DualShock 4 in urban camouflage.

In North America, Latin America, and Europe, the glacier white PS4 will be available as part of a bundle pack featuring Destiny, a highly-anticipated title developed by Bungie Inc., and published by Activision. The bundle also includes a free 30-day membership to PS Plus.

The PS4 system’s game portfolio will continue to expand with more than 120 titles available worldwide by the end of this year. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Embraces Next Generation Gaming Technology

Activision Goes Big with Skylanders Behemoths

AprilFools1Activision Publishing Inc. will release Skylanders Behemoths, a new line of figures spinning out of its popular Skylanders video game series. Unveiled during Toy-kyo Toy Fair on Monday, Skylanders Behemoths features dynamic, life-size R/C versions of popular Skylanders characters. The first wave will consist of 10 five-to-seven-foot tall figures, which are scheduled to arrive in stores this October.

AprilFools2Kids ages 10 and up control each Skylanders Behemoths figure using an included remote. The figures also have an “auto” setting, which turns each figure into an interactive toy that responds to kids’ needs. Right out of the box, each Skylanders Behemoth responds to up to 40 verbal requests, including, “Help me with my homework,” “Bake chocolate chip cookies,” and, “Get me more Skylanders toys from the store.” According to an Activision rep, the figures will constantly learn more responses through a built-in wi-fi connection. McDonald’s Delivers Skylanders Happy Meals with Exclusive Toys

HappyMeal.SkylandersFor the second consecutive year, Activision Publishing Inc. and McDonald’s USA LLC are teaming up for a Skylanders Happy Meal program. Through April 24, participating McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. and Puerto Rico will launch a new Skylanders Happy Meal featuring one of eight exclusive toys inspired by Skylanders Swap Force.

Customers who purchase a Happy Meal will receive one of eight toys, each with a unique play feature, as well as coupons for discounts off the Skylanders Swap Force Starter Pack and a Skylanders character. The Happy Meal figurines are inspired by the fan-favorite characters Chompy, Eruptor, Free Ranger, Freeze Blade, Magna Charge, Prism Break, Rattle Shake, and Wash Buckler.

Activision and Frito-Lay Team Up to Let Fans Choose New Skylanders Hero

FRITO-LAY NORTH AMERICA , ACTIVISION, SKYLANDERSActivision Publishing Inc. and PepsiCo‘s Frito-Lay North America division are providing fans with the opportunity to choose and name a new hero that will appear in the next Skylanders game, which is slated for release this year. The winner will also receive a $100,000 scholarship.

Between now and March 21, fans 18 years and older can visit Frito-Lay’s official site to select one of three potential heroes they want to see come to life in the next Skylanders game. They can also find more details and official rules. Once their Skylanders selection is made, contestants submit a suggested name and a 200-character or less inspiration for the name they chose.

In May, one fan-created name for each of the three potential heroes will be selected by a panel of judges and announced as finalists, and fans 13 years and older will be invited to vote online for the hero they want. Later this year, the winning hero will be revealed. The official name for that Skylanders hero and will appear in a variety of places, such as on Skylanders packaging and the Skylanders game.

This marks the third consecutive year in which Activision has partnered with Frito-Lay for the Skylanders franchise.

Activision Partners with Crayola on New Skylanders Products

The Activision Booth at American International Toy Fair

The Activision Booth at American International Toy Fair was a welcome sight for Skylanders fans.

Activision Publishing Inc. will be collaborating with Crayola on new products for its popular Skylanders franchise. As a result of the new licensing agreement, Activision and Crayola will introduce a Skylanders-branded line featuring Crayola’s signature Color Wonder, Giant Coloring Pages, and Xtreme Coloring formats. These will be available during the upcoming holiday season.

To date, Skylanders’ licensing portfolio features a total of more than 175 licensees. The recent announcement follows a highly successful 2013 for the toy and video game franchise, which outsold all action figure lines worldwide for the second consecutive year.
