Nintendo amiibo Sales Reach 7 Million to Date

AmiiboAccording to data from the NPD Group, Nintendo has sold an estimated 7 million amiibo figures to date in the U.S. alone. The news comes out less than a month before Nintendo introduces Animal Crossing Series 1 amiibo Cards, scheduled to launch on September 25, along with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for the Nintendo 3DS.

In the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the video game maker revealed new amiibo cards based on characters from the Animal Crossing series, compatible with the upcoming Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. Both the cards and the new game are scheduled for release this fall. Nintendo also announced a new line of Yoshi amiibo figures made of actual yarn, and more.

Nintendo Debuts Animal Crossing Plaza App, Pokémon Series on Wii U

acpFans of Animal Crossing now have a new place to go on Wii U to talk about their towns and share images with players from all over the world. Nintendo unveiled the new, and free, Animal Crossing Plaza app during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation. It is available for download at the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo also discussed a variety of other topics about Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games, including the debut of the Pokémon series on Wii U with Pokémon Rumble U and the story behind The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for Nintendo 3DS.

In Pokémon Rumble U, which launches exclusively in the Nintendo eShop on August 29, players will have the opportunity to befriend some of the Toy Pokémon that they defeat in battle. They can also play as or do battle against every one of the 649 Pokémon that have appeared in the video games through Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.
