Hasbro, Blackflip Studios, and Space Ape Games Launch Transformers: Earth War

Hasbro Inc., Backflip Studios, and Space Ape Games released Transformers: Earth Wars a real-time combat strategy mobile game featuring iconic characters from the Transformers universe. The game pairs authentic Transformers storytelling with fast-paced gameplay, 3-D animation, and multiple characters with diverse abilities.

Inspired by Hasbro’s Transformers Generations Prime Wars trilogy, Transformers: Earth Wars players must choose to fight with Optimus Prime and the Autobots or Megatron and the Decepticons in a battle to decide the fate of planet Earth.

The game also features storytellers and voice actors from the Transformers franchise, including dialogue by Simon Furman; voice acting by Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Prime; and Frank Welker, the original voice of Megatron.

The game is available for free download on iOS and Android devices worldwide, except in China and Japan.

Hasbro and Backflip Let the Good Times Roll with Play-Doh Jam

PlayDoh JamPlay-Doh Jam is a mobile game that lets players squish their way to high scores in a colorful Play-Doh universe. The game was developed by Fat Pebble and is published by Backflip Studios in partnership with Hasbro Inc. Players use their finger to guide a virtual Play-Doh ball along, smashing targets along the way.

Hasbro Purchases Majority Interest in Backflip Studios

Hasbro, Inc. acquired a majority stake in Backflip Studios. The Boulder, Colo.-based company develops mobile games including DragonValeNinJump and Paper Toss. Hasbro paid $112 million in an all cash transaction for 70 percent of the company.

Hasbro-logo-jpgFounded in 2009 by Julian Farrior, Dale Thoms, and Tom Blind, Backflip Studios has become one of the fastest growing and most profitable mobile game studios with more than 300 million downloads of its popular games. Other titles in Backflip’s portfolio include Ragdoll BlasterArmy of Darkness Defense, and OutWorded. Backflip will continue to develop its own IP, as well as create mobile games featuring many of Hasbro’s best known brands. As part of the transaction, Backflip’s management team will continue to run the company, which will remain in Boulder. Hasbro anticipates the transaction to be neutral to slightly accretive to its 2013 financial results.
