Sprout Introduces New Sprout Channel Cubby Tablet

SproutLogoThe 24-hour preschool TV destination Sprout has its own kids’ tablet, the Sprout Channel Cubby, which will be available this October at Wal-Mart stores and at walmart.com. Produced by Ematic for kids ages 2 to 6, the Cubby features trusted entertainment and learning content preloaded onto the tablet, and will include special credits for vudu.com, allowing customers to download additional content.

SproutCubby.vers2The preloaded content accessible without Wi-Fi connectivity includes full episodes of Sprout shows, such as The Chica Show, Barney, Fireman Sam, Chloe’s Closet, and the premiere episode of Astroblast; music videos; and songs. HIT, Lionsgate to Release New Children’s Titles

Barney and his friends discover that the sky is not the limit when you use your imagination in the all-new release Barney: Let’s Go To The Moon, arriving on DVD, digital download, and on demand January 8 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment and HIT Entertainment.

Also from Lionsgate and HIT, Angelina Ballerina: Dance Around the World is slated for release on January 8 as well. Angeling Ballerina is a mouseling who knows how to celebrate the great big world of dance in this new five-episode collection.

Techno Source Named New Licensee for Barney

Hit Entertainment has appointed Techno Source, a division of LF Products, as a  toy licensee for Barney. Under the terms of the deal, the Barney toy range from Techno Source will include plush, play sets, and figurines, launching this spring in the U.S. and Canada.

Barney & Friends can be seen on PBS Kids and Sprout in the U.S., and on Treehouse TV in Canada. Episodes are also available for download through iTunes.

Hit Entertainment Names Licensees For New Barney Products

Barney is back with new licensees for products that will attract both young and old fans of the popular television show. Braha has obtained the license to create Barney plush puzzle mats while a Barney-inspired pillow will join the line of Pillow Pets from Ontel Products Corporation and CJ Products, LLC. Rasta Imposta is designing an adult Barney costume to complement the child’s costume they already produce. Yoostar is adding Barney & Friends to its library of content, allowing users to insert themselves into video footage from the show. Other apparel and accessories licensees include At Full Speed, Bio World, Classic Imports, Concept One and Planet Sox.

Lionsgate to Release New Barney DVD in Mid-September

Barney is back with a new DVD meant to enhance preschool counting. Barney: A-Counting We Will Go features the dinosaur and his friends as they play a game of hide-and-seek. But when Baby Bop realizes she can’t be the one to seek because she doesn’t know how to count, the cast is more than willing to help her learn. Suitable for ages 1 to 5, the DVD features both English and Spanish dubs as well as a “Counting in the Garden” game.

The 54-minute DVD from Lionsgate is also accompanied with a 64-page coloring and activity book that offers more ways to refresh preschool counting skills.

HIT Entertainment Realigns Business Units

Hit Entertainment has announced an internal realignment of its business units. As a part of the realignment four new divisions will be created. The divisions will form two new lines of business: one focusing on Thomas & Friends, and the other on HIT Global Brands (Angelina Ballerina, Barney, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, Pingu, and Rainbow Magic). The realignment is effective immediately.

The Thomas & Friends line of business will comprise three divisions: the New York-based “Thomas Americas,” London-based “Thomas EMEA, ” and the Hong Kong-based “Thomas Asia.” The HIT Global Brands business unit will be managed from London as one global division.

HIT’s Finance, Legal, HR, and IT groups will remain centralized staff units supporting both lines of business. As a part of the restructuring, Peter Byrne, executive vice president of International Consumer Products and Home Entertainment, will be leaving the company

Barney and Other HIT Properties to Become Stage Shows

HIT Entertainment has signed deals with several producers of live stage musicals to develop, produce, and tour new shows for the HIT brands Barney, Angelina Ballerina, and Thomas & Friends.  The shows will debut in the U.S. this fall and will tour through 2011.

Vee Corporation has signed on to be the exclusive producer of Barney Live. The preschool stage show, touring in North America and the Caribbean, will feature Barney, BJ, Baby Bop, Riff, and others.
