OYO Sports, a manufacturer of licensed mini-figure building toys that look like popular professional athletes, is building a vertically integrated e-commerce business with real-time U.S.-based manufacturing. Seed investors include Boston Seed Capital and Atlas Venture.
OYO Sports features players from multiple fan-favorite sports, including football, baseball, and hockey. The company currently features over 2,000 unique athletes.
The new business venture is aimed to extend beyond toys, and bring out the kid in all sports fans.
The first live-action mascot, Mr. Met, made his debut with the New York Mets at Shea Stadium back in 1964. In the 50 years since then, Major League Baseball (MLB) mascots have been rooting teams on at venues everywhere.
To commemorate the MLB mascot’s milestone, Funko has given the Pop! treatment to a number of favorites, including Mariner Moose, Mr. Redlegs, and of course, Mr. Met. The new toys will be available in May, in time for the start of baseball season.
Major League Baseball Properties and Disney Consumer Products have unveiled a special line of Mickey Mouse collectible statuettes commemorating 2010 All-Star Week, held July 9-13 in Anaheim, Calif. The 36 different statuettes feature MLB-themed designs and are replicas of 7.5-foot-tall statues that will be placed at Southern California landmarks leading up to the big game on July 13.
