The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) has released its 2014 Annual Report. Thanks to toy donations and financial contributions from individual and corporate supporters, TIF was able to serve nearly 5 million kids, and reach 56 percent more kids than during the previous year. Another milestone was met in 2014: More than $100 million worth of toys have been donated to The Toy Bank, TIF’s signature program, since the program’s inception in 2003. Just under $19 million in toys were donated last year.
Approximately 1,500 children and their families stationed at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar received brand new toys from the Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) and national partner Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) Military Services during a special Month of the Military Child celebration, which took place on April 11 in San Diego.
More than 1,700 children of military personnel and Wounded Warriors were given brand-new toys and games on November 6 at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, Va. Hosted by the Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) Military Services, the toy giveaway was held in celebration of Military Family Appreciation Month.
Every child in attendance got to take home a toy, choosing from a selection of skill-building, enriching, and comforting playthings donated by Barnes & Noble, Big Time Toys, Imperial Toy, Lego, Mattel, Patch Products, and Yamie Chess. The event was held as part of the joint TIF/BGCA Play Comforts program, in which toys and games are delivered on an annual basis to families on U.S. military installations at home and abroad.
The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) and national partner Boys & Girls Clubs of America Military Services treated 1,100 kids of military personnel stationed at Naval Station Mayport in Florida to brand-new toys and games this past Saturday. The “Day of Play” also included family games and activities, food, and entertainment. Every child in attendance was able to take home a toy. Barnes and Noble, Big Red Dog Patch, Imperial Toy, Lego, Lulu Jr., Mattel, and Yamie Chess donated the toys to TIF.
The event was held as part of the joint TIF/BGCA Play Comforts program, the first national toy distribution initiative to serve every branch of the U.S. military. Through Play Comforts, toys and games donated are delivered annually to families on U.S. military installations at home and abroad. Since the program’s launch in 2010, more then 1.7 million toys have been delivered to military families on over 152 U.S. military bases worldwide.
The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) has distributed $100 million worth of toys and games to children in need since its Toy Bank program was founded in 2003. The historical milestone was reached following this year’s Summer Toy Drive, which collected $11 million worth of toys. To date, TIF and its supporters have donated enriching playthings to nearly 17 million disadvantaged kids worldwide.
Contributions to the Summer Toy Drive more than quadrupled over last year, growing from nearly 900,000 toys donated in 2013 to nearly four million toys this year. The Lego Group donated roughly 250,000 toys—half of which have already been distributed to children in such locations as Albania, Armenia, Romania, Zambia and Zimbabwe—putting the foundation over the $100 million mark. The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) and national partner Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) Military Services distributed brand new toys to more than 2,000 children and families living on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C. on December 2. During the base’s annual tree lighting ceremony, kids were treated to more than just entertainment and festive activities—they were also given a generous donation of toys, games, and stuffed animals.
With the holiday season just around the corner, TIF and BGCA are hopeful that the toys will ease the stresses and challenges children face with parents who are frequently deployed. This special donation was made possible through toy companies to TIF’s signature giving program, The Toy Bank.
This event was held as part of the TIF/BGCA Play Comforts program—the first national toy distribution initiative to serve dozens of U.S. military installations at home and abroad. The program has provided more than $3.8 million in toys for children and families over the four years it has been running.
TIF’s Toy Bank includes AbraKIDabra, Alex Toys, Barnes & Noble, Cardinal Industries, Cartamundi USA, Hohner, Inc., Green Toys, Innovation First, Lego Systems Inc., Mattel Inc., MindWare, Ohio Art, Patch Products, Safari Ltd., Wonder Forge, Wyla/Just Pretend Kids, and exhibitors at the TIA’s Fall Toy Preview in Dallas. For 10 years, The Toy Bank has provided toys to more than 11 million children in need worldwide.
Toy industry stakeholders who would like to help bring the power of play to children in need are invited to join the Toy Industry Foundation’s (TIF) Leaders Circle giving program by annually donating to TIF. The Leaders Circle raises more than 10 percent of TIF’s annual budget, making it a critical source of funds for core toy donation and grant programs. Currently, the Leaders Circle includes approximately 100 members, and TIF hopes to see it expand in order to keep pace with TIF’s growing toy donation and grant-making activities.
Donors may choose to support specific TIF programs and partnerships, such as The Toy Bank toy donation program benefiting children’s charities across the country, or TIF’s national partnerships with CASA for Children (which helps children in foster care) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America Military Services (which serves children of military families).
To join, make a cash donation of $250 or more to the Toy Industry Foundation online or via regular mail. For more information, contact TIF’s Marisa Medina at (646) 454-5581.
