Disney Infinity: Toy Box Starter Pack (2.0 Edition) Arrives at Retail

DisneyInfinity.StarterPackDisney Interactive has released the Disney Infinity: Toy Box Starter Pack (2.0 Edition), a Disney-themed Starter Pack featuring Disney Originals Figures of Merida and Stitch, as well as new Toy Box Games set in the worlds of Lilo and Stitch and Brave. Along with the new versions of Stitch and Merida, the company plans to add Donald Duck, Tinker Bell, Maleficent, and Aladdin, as well as Hiro and Baymax from the upcoming Big Hero 6 to the Disney Originals Figures line.

Licensed Toys: A Growing Phenomenon with Year-Round Appeal

Character licenses based on blockbuster movies have the ability to propel products to stratospheric success, creating memories that last a lifetime for millions of fans. Recent sales for licensed toys reflect this growing phenomenon: last year, licensed toys and games were up 2 percent from 2010. For the first half of this year, those numbers have climbed further to 27 percent of total toy sales.

“Kids love bringing movies to life through play, whether they are re-enacting storylines, imagining new plot developments, or emulating their favorite superheroes and villains,” said Adrienne Appell, trend expert at the Toy Industry Association (TIA). “Playthings related to the biggest blockbusters are sure to be on the wish lists of kids throughout the year and well into the holiday season.”

TIA has been tracking many of the family friendly movies that have toy and game tie-ins on its ToyInfo.org website. The following are a few examples from this year so far… and a sneak peak at what’s coming this fall:

The Avengers (May)
Toys and games related to The Avengers encourage kids to get into the spirit of the fast-paced movie. Considered by many to be the break-out movie and toy property of the year, strong toy sales are anticipated to continue during the holiday season following the Sept. 25 release of the DVD and Blu-Ray.

VTech MobiGo 2 and InnoTab 2 Now Available for Pre-Order

VTech Electronics North America, LLC, have announced that MobiGo 2 and InnoTab 2 are now available for pre-order at ToysRUs.com, Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and VTechKids.com.

MobiGo 2 is a multi-functional, handheld touch learning system that comes equipped with a motion sensor and microphone for total game control. The InnoTab 2 gives kids their own touch-screen tablet with free on-board activities to get them started, and a new rotatable digital camera and video recorder. Both products connect to VTech’s Learning Lodge Navigator so children can choose from hundreds of apps to download, including new content from Brave, Madagascar 3, and Hello Kitty, for more fun and learning.

For pre-orders, the estimated shipping dates for MobiGo 2 and InnoTab 2 are July 23 and August 10, respectively.

“Brave” Video Game Now Available from Disney/Pixar

Brave: The Video Game, inspired by the Disney/Pixar movie Brave, is now available for PlayStation3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Windows PC/Mac. The game is a third-person, action adventure where players can challenge destiny and change their fate as Merida, voiced by the film’s actress Kelly Macdonald. Brave: The Video Game, which is rated E, offers a variety of gameplay options, including single-player as Merida, co-op mode with a will-o’-the-wisp, and a special Bear mode. With Kinect for Xbox 360 and the PlayStationMove motion controller for PS3, gamers can feel as if they are using a bow and arrow.

Disney Greenlights New Monsters Movie, Plus Pirates 4 and The Muppets

During a presentation on Thursday by Walt Disney Studios chairman Rich Ross, Disney unveiled its upcoming slate of movies.

Pixar will release a sequel to Monsters, Inc. in November 2012. Monsters, Inc. debuted in theaters in 2001, and has grossed over $525 million worldwide. Ross also announced that Pixar’s Brave has been scheduled for June 15, 2012.

Other upcoming movies include Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and The Muppets in 2011, and Prom in 2012.
