DHX Media Signs Golden Bear Toys as Twirlywoos Master Toy Partner

UK broadcaster CBeebies has commissioned a brand new preschool series, Twirlywoos, from Ragdoll Productions. The series, set to air next year, will revolve around the Twirlywoos: four small, bird-like characters who are inquisitive, enthusiastic, and constantly looking to learn something new about the world.

Twirlywoos will combine stop-frame animation and live action sequences set in the real world. It will be produced in association with DHX Media, which will handle global distribution, merchandising, brand management, and marketing. DHX Brands, the consumer products arm of DHX Media, has signed a global master toy deal with Golden Bear Toys, which will launch product in 2016, with a key focus on plush and plastics (play sets/figurines), bath toys and games, and activity products.

DHX Brands Signs Character Options as Master Toy Partner on New Teletubbies

DHXMediaOriginalTeletubbiesDHX Media has appointed Character Options as global master toy partner for the new series of Teletubbies. DHX Brands, the company’s dedicated brand and consumer products arm, completed the deal.

Character Options will launch product at retail in the UK in 2016, with other territories to follow. Core categories will be plush, plastics, and bath toys.

The much-anticipated new 60-episode series of Teletubbies has been commissioned by the UK’s CBeebies and is being produced by Darrall Macqueen Ltd. It will bring a contemporary look to the property, ensuring that it is relevant for a new generation.

Jazwares Appointed Master Toy Partner for Ella the Elephant

DHXMEDIAEllaDHX Media has appointed Jazwares Inc. as the global master toy partner on preschool property Ella the Elephant for the U.S., Canada, UK, Ireland, Latin America, Middle East, Australia, Spain, and Norway. The deal will enable Jazwares to launch worldwide plush, dolls figures, and play sets, vehicles, role play, and musical instruments based on the animated preschool series, which is currently airing weekdays on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

Ella the Elephant is a charming and whimsical animated preschool series based on the award-winning Ella the Elegant Elephant book series written by Carmela D’Amico and illustrated by Steven D’Amico. The series follows the adventures of Ella and her friends on Elephant Islands. Ella is a spirited little elephant with a big heart, bigger imagination, and a magic hat that can transform into almost anything.

Cupcake Digital Develops Yo Gabba Gabba! App Series for Preschoolers

DHX Media has selected Cupcake Digital Inc. to develop a new series of kids’ apps featuring the characters from Yo Gabba Gabba!. Cupcake Digital will create deluxe activity apps designed for kids ages 5 and under.

The first Cupcake Digital Yo Gabba Gabba! app will launch this winter, as part of DHX Media’s comprehensive Yo Gabba Gabba! marketing and licensing strategy, which kicks off with the first live holiday tour and A Very Awesome Yo Gabba Gabba! Christmas DVD, featuring two original episodes, “A Very Awesome Christmas Special” and “Christmas.”

The app is inspired by the tune “There’s a Party in My Tummy.” The app will feature DJ Lance Rock and Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee. The activities within the app offer a variety of creative and imaginative ways for kids to learn about healthy foods and encourage kids to try them. The app will be available day-and-date on iTunes, AmazonGoogle Play, and the Barnes & Noble for Nook store.

Celebrate the Holidays with New Yo Gabba Gabba! LIVE! Holiday Show

Holiday Show Presented by Citi will rock the preschool, parents, and young adult set in nine cities across the U.S. this year. Enthusiastic fans of all ages have the opportunity to see the characters come to life on stage for a live show experience like no other. Presale tickets for Citi credit and debit card members will be on sale beginning August 6 through Citi’s Private Pass Program at citiprivatepass.com. Public sale begins August 12. Citi card member preferred ticket sale begins August 13. One dollar from every ticket sold will benefit Toys for Tots, the non-profit organization authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

DHX Media and Yo Gabba Gabba! have launched the Yo Gabba Gabba! Hello Friends! preschool app for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices. Yo Gabba Gabba!, created by Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz, launched on Nickelodeon in 2007. Yo Gabba Gabba! DHX Media Acquires Cookie Jar Entertainment

DHX Media has acquired the business of Cookie Jar Entertainment to create Canada’s largest independent children’s entertainment company. The deal will be completed in mid-October, subject to a number of conditions including shareholder and regulatory approvals.

Properties will include Yo Gabba Gabba!, Rastamouse, Franny’s Feet, Animal Mechanicals,  Kid vs. Kat, Angela Anaconda, Martha Speaks, as well as Caillou, Inspector Gadget, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, The Doodlebops, and Johnny Test.

The transaction implies an enterprise value for Cookie Jar of $111 million. DHX expects to realize cost synergies, which should be achieved within the first year following the closing of the transaction.

DHX Media Acquires W!LDBRAIN Entertainment

DHX Media, an international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, has acquired W!LDBRAIN Entertainment, the LA-based entertainment company that produces and animates The Ricky Gervais Show for HBO and turned Yo Gabba Gabba! into a franchise. Michael Polis will continue to lead W!LDBRAIN Entertainment as president. He will also serve as executive vice-president, branded entertainment and consumer products, DHX Media, where he will also lead DHX Media’s international licensing activities.
