Sessions and Speakers Announced for Digital Kids Conference at North American International Toy Fair
The Digital Kids Conference, scheduled for February 15 to 17 at North American International Toy Fair, will offer insight on how to create digital toys, games, and media services for kids. The event is intended for game developers, app developers, brand owners, entertainment and media executives, marketers, producers, digital media directors and licensing professionals seeking to engage children online and on digital devices.
Session titles include: Connected Digital Devices: Understanding Digital Kids; Embracing Digital Construction: Lego Fusion Case Study; and Launching, Marketing, and Distributing Toys to Today’s Parents and Kids with YouTube; and more.
The featured speakers include Andrew Sugarman, executive vice president of Disney Publishing Worldwide; Carrie Bischke, director of brand integration, Ubisoft; Boris Sofman, Ph.D., co-founder, and CEO of Anki Drive, and more.

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) and media company Engage Digital have announced that the eighth annual Digital Kids Conference will co-locate with the American International Toy Fair in February at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Taking place February 18 to 19, the Digital Kids Conference will address new strategies, tools, and marketplace insight that will enable youth-focused media professionals to create digital toys, games, and media services for kids. The partnership between the two shows will provide Toy Fair attendees with access to the Digital Kids Conference, and TIA members will receive reduced rates to attend the sessions. Digital Kids attendees will gain access to the Toy Fair show floor, where they will be among the first to view 150,000 new toys and games on display by more than 1,000 toy companies.
Toy Fair 2014 will be held from February 16 to 19. Toy Fair will showcase the year’s new products and also include an educational program designed to help toy inventors and designers, licensors, independent and specialty retailers, and many more constituents grow their businesses, comply with new safety requirements, identify the biggest toy trends of the year, and more.
As a kid, my favorite educational experiences involved some sort of tactile learning—digging for fossils with my fellow Boy Scouts, trudging through muddy lo’i patches to harvest taro (an edible Hawaiian root), and slicing open frogs and fetal pigs in Biology class. I’m the classic have-to-touch-everything personality, a practical nightmare for museum staffs everywhere.
Considering this, I wasn’t much of a gamer, except maybe a brief fascination with the Legend of Zelda. Imagine my surprise when I came across a new online game, The Time Tribe, from Thundersnow Media, at the recent Digital Kids Conference here in New York City. The Time Tribe can be a classic gaming experience (it’s also free), but with a subscription the adventure game can become a tactile experience with monthly mailings, including letters written by characters in the game, mysterious wax-sealed envelopes, a wearable “timekey” from each time travel adventure, and pages from journals. The conference, which will be held on February 12 and February 13, will bring youth-focused digital media executives, brand owners, and licensors together to learn how to engage children online and through digital devices. The conference will also feature information on how to produce inspiring products, establish successful online and mobile revenue generation strategies, and leverage the social media best practices.
