The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) has reported giving brand-new toys to nearly 300,000 children in need since the beginning of the year, thanks to toy and financial donations received from throughout the industry.
The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) has distributed $100 million worth of toys and games to children in need since its Toy Bank program was founded in 2003. The historical milestone was reached following this year’s Summer Toy Drive, which collected $11 million worth of toys. To date, TIF and its supporters have donated enriching playthings to nearly 17 million disadvantaged kids worldwide.
Contributions to the Summer Toy Drive more than quadrupled over last year, growing from nearly 900,000 toys donated in 2013 to nearly four million toys this year. The Lego Group donated roughly 250,000 toys—half of which have already been distributed to children in such locations as Albania, Armenia, Romania, Zambia and Zimbabwe—putting the foundation over the $100 million mark. MasterPieces Puzzle Company recently donated just over $117,000 worth of jigsaw puzzles to the Toy Industry Foundation’s (TIF) Toy Bank during TIF’s annual Summer Toy Drive. Beneficiaries include: the Huntington Area Food Bank, of West Virginia; New Threads of Hope, of Wisconsin; and First United Presbyterian Church, of Ohio.
K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers served as the Toy Bank’s logistics partner. TIF’s 2014 Summer Toy Drive is ongoing through August 31.
Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation and Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) Inc., are calling on manufacturers and retailers to donate essential new products to help people affected by last week’s tornado in Oklahoma. The twister tore through Oklahoma City suburbs, killing at least 24 people, injuring hundreds and leaving many more homeless. Fashion Delivers and K.I.D.S. are assessing needs on the ground in Moore, Oklahoma, and reaching out to corporate partners for the greatest needs: new clothing including T-shirts, jeans, underwear, socks and rubber-soled shoes, blankets, sheets, towels, diapers, hygiene products, and furnishings for families.
Both Fashion Delivers and K.I.D.S. are supporting the following community partners providing tornado relief efforts on the ground: Operation Compassion, Operation Homefront Oklahoma, Infant Parent Intervention Center, Comanche Nation Higher Education Programs, Food and Shelter For Friends, Midwest Military Outreach, Operation Homefront Missouri, and H.E.R.O.E.S.
