The NPD Group Says Video Game Sales are Steady

Total video game sales from March 2015 to March 2016 stayed about the same, according to The NPD Group. In addition, total software sales went up by seven percent, video game hardware sales went down by nineteen percent, and video games software and video games accessories sales increased by eight and nine percent.

The top 10 games for 2016 include: Tom Clancy’s The Division, Far Cry: Primal, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, Grand Theft Auto V, UFC 2, MLB 16: The Show, Pokken Tournament, NBA 2K16, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Minecraft.

Grand Theft Auto V Crosses $1 Billion After Three Days

GrandTheftAutoVGrand Theft Auto V, the latest release from the video game series, has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than $1 billion during its first three days on sale, according to estimates by Take Two Interactive Software Inc. This is reported to be the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has reached that milestone.

Rockstar North developed Grand Theft Auto V, which received critical acclaim upon release. The game was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17. It is rated “M” for Mature by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

Hastings Entertainment Inc., a multimedia entertainment retailer, will host a midnight release party for the highly anticipated action game, Grand Theft Auto V, (the first installment to come out since 2008) on September 16. Festivities, including energy drink and candy deals, begin at 9:00 p.m. local time and will end with the release of the game at midnight. An offer code for an in-game vehicle called the Atomic Blimp will also be available to anyone who purchases the game at midnight.
