SMC Entertainment Group, Inc. Signs New Licensees For The Jungle Book

SMC Entertainment Group, Inc., an entertainment and brand management company and sister company to global consumer products manufacturer Sun-Mate Corporation, has finalized licensing agreements in the U.S. for the new high-definition television series, The Jungle Book, scheduled to debut on June 11 on Disney XD.

SMC has signed a slate of new U.S. licensees, including Phase 4 Films as the property’s home entertainment and Digital distribution partner; Isaac Morris as its master apparel partner; Komar for children’s sleepwear; Insights Editions for Young Readers Book series; Seasons USA for Halloween costumes; Nanco-Nancy Sales, Inc., for amusement plush and novelties; Pacific Play Tents for children’s play tents; Barnes & Noble for e-books; United States Playing Card Company for customized playing cards; and My Idol Pops for figural lollypops.

SMC acquired all North American Home Entertainment, Licensing and Merchandising rights, and Promotional rights for The Jungle Book CGI-animated television series, plus the one-hour tele-film from DQEI, the producers and rights holders of the series. SMC has also acquired The Jungle Book toy rights for Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand, along with licensing and merchandising rights for South Africa. SMC will be representing The Jungle Book at Licensing Show, at booth 3268, and is seeking partnerships to develop a comprehensive consumer products’ campaign across categories including toy, ELA’s, publishing, games and puzzles, gaming/interactive, apparel, footwear, accessories, back to school, party goods, food and beverage, arts and crafts, home furnishings, and more.

Toy Industry Veteran Forms New Company

Scott Bachrach, an American businessman, entrepreneur, and toy industry veteran, has formed a new company, The Wish Factory Limited, which specializes in unique,
on-trend products in the toy licensing, entertainment, and consumer products industry.

The first release from The Wish Factory Limited, a girls’ fashion accessory line called PopGrrl, is set to launch in this year’s fourth quarter, just in time for the holidays.

Bachrach began his career in the toy industry in 1995. founding the Fun-4-All Corporation, serving as owner and CEO until 2004. In 2006, Bachrach founded Think Tank Toys, a New York-based company that manufactured and marketed toys and other novelties. In 2008, Think Tank Toys was sold to WowWee, USA, Inc. Dan Lesnick, a toy industry sales, marketing, and manufacturing veteran, is a partner in the new company.

Jakks Pacific’s Tollytots Division Signs Licensing Deal for Safety 1st

Jakks Pacific’s Tollytots division has signed a worldwide master toy licensing agreement with juvenile products manufacturer Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc., a division of Dorel Industries, for Dorel’s baby products and accessories brand, Safety 1st.

Under this agreement, Tollytots will develop, market, and distribute a comprehensive line of preschool and early learning toys for infants and toddlers. The products will reflect Safety 1st’s standards of safety, innovation, design, and value. The new Safety 1st toy line from Tollytots, expected to launch in fall 2012, will include products in a broad range of categories, including learning and developmental toys.

Synergy Licensing, the exclusive licensing agency for Dorel Juvenile Group, brokered the deal.

TMNT Producer Granted Cabbage Patch Kids Movie Rights

Original Appalachian Artworks, Inc. (OAA), the owner of the Cabbage Patch Kids property, has granted CWA Carlin West Agency and film and television producer Galen Walker the rights to create an animated television special based on the Cabbage Patch Kids. Walker is most noted for producing the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and for being the producer of the next live-action TMNT feature with Paramount.

Disney Greenlights New Monsters Movie, Plus Pirates 4 and The Muppets

During a presentation on Thursday by Walt Disney Studios chairman Rich Ross, Disney unveiled its upcoming slate of movies.

Pixar will release a sequel to Monsters, Inc. in November 2012. Monsters, Inc. debuted in theaters in 2001, and has grossed over $525 million worldwide. Ross also announced that Pixar’s Brave has been scheduled for June 15, 2012.

Other upcoming movies include Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and The Muppets in 2011, and Prom in 2012.
