Loot Crate Closes $18.5 Million Series A Funding Round

unnamed-2Loot Crate announced its $18.5 million Series A funding round, lead by Upfront Ventures, with participation from Breakwater Investment Management, Time Inc., Downey Ventures, M13, and SterlingVC.

Loot Crate offers its consumers themed mystery boxes each month tailored around leading entertainment and pop culture franchises. Each box offers four to seven curated product and content that ranges from collectible figurines, comic books, apparel, and Loot Crate-exclusive items.

Since launching in 2012 with $25,000 in seed funding, Loot Crate’s revenues have grown to more than $100 million annually and more than 600,000 monthly subscribers worldwide. The company currently services 35 countries, including the UK, which has become its second-largest market and where the company will be opening secondary offices this summer.

Nintendo Partners with Loot Crate to Deliver amiibo to Fans

amiibo.largerversionThe online delivery service Loot Crate is helping fans receive select Nintendo amiibo figures after they launch on November 21. By signing up for the limited-time amiibo subscription service, subscribers will receive 10 pre-selected amiibo—including Mario, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Fox, and Yoshi—separated into three special Loot Crate shipments throughout the holiday season.

By joining the subscription service, Loot Crate guarantees the 10 pre-selected amiibo, and allows subscribers to avoid the hassle of rushing to retailers to find certain characters. In addition to Mario, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Fox, and Yoshi, the other five pre-selected characters will eventually be revealed through Loot Crate.

Nintendo and Loot Crate plan additional surprises for Super Smash Bros. and amiibo fans. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors will feature amiibo compatibility this year, with functionality for more titles coming in the future.

Kidrobot, Loot Crate Partner to Bring Premium Art Figures to Monthly Subscription Program

Loot Crate and Kidrobot have teamed up to bring fans more premium art figures through Loot Crate’s mystery bundle subscription program. Every month, Loot Crate subscribers receive a box of gamer gear that has its own specific theme, where customers get the opportunity to assemble a diverse collection of figures and items.

Under the partnership, Kidrobot will work with Loot Crate to bring a variety of product to new customers and audiences.
