On Tuesday, the Walt Disney Company reported record quarterly earnings of $2.5 billion for its third fiscal quarter ended June 27, compared to $2.2 billion during the prior-year quarter. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) for the third quarter increased 13 percent to $1.45 from $1.28 in the prior-year quarter. EPS for the nine months ended June 27 increased 16 percent to $3.95 from $3.40 in the prior-year period, while excluding certain items affecting comparability, EPS for the nine months increased 15 percent.
According to new research from Netflix released just in time for Father’s Day, 85 percent of dads around the world have already or plan to introduce their kids to the cartoons they grew up watching. For 75 percent of those polled, it lets them feel like a kid again, while for 76 percent, it helps them teach life lessons. The research finds dads take seriously the role of keeping the pop culture references from their childhood alive: Roughly two-thirds of them, or 66 percent, are turning to internet TV services such as Netflix for this new family tradition.

With less than one month until Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters, Disney Consumer Products (DCP) and Marvel have released details about their merchandising program, which is arriving at retail now. Toy partners include Hasbro, Lego, Hot Wheels, Funko, Rubie’s Costumes, Disney Store, and more. The toys range from interactive electronic action figures with voice-activation to motorized 6V ride-on super cars that drive 2.5 miles per hour; to articulated, light-up repulsor FX gloves; and a disk-launching shield.

Disney Interactive has launched the free Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0 app for iPad and iPhone. A new addition to the Disney Infinity game universe, the app features all of the tools and enhanced features of Toy Box 2.0 from Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition), as well as all-new multiplayer functionality so mobile gamers can create Toy Boxes together using favorite Marvel and Disney characters, vehicles, settings, and items.
Disney Interactive has released updated details for Marvel’s The Avengers Play Set, which will be available for Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) this fall. Based on a brand new, true-to-property storyline composed with the help of veteran Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis, the play set will feature Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, and Hawkeye.
