Arad Animation and 41 Entertainment have granted the exclusive worldwide master toy license to MGA Entertainment for their Kong property. The product line will include action figures, electronic and action plush, playsets, vehicles, games, and learning aid toys for kids ages 5 to 10. Kong—King of the Apes is a Netflix original series, slated to debut next year.
“We were attracted to this great brand because of its iconic nature, Avi’s great story-telling and designs, and the power of Netflix as a platform. We are excited to design and produce a strong product line for 2016,” said Isaac Larian, president and CEO of MGAE.
MGA Entertainment is partnering with Build-A-Bear Workshop to offer Lalaloopsy dolls in honor of the brand’s Super Silly Fifth Anniversary Party. Starting in August, Lalaloopsy fans will be able to build four of the eight original Lalaloopsy characters—Crumbs Sugar Cookie, Jewel Sparkles, Peanut Big Top, and Mittens Fluff “N” Stuff—and personalize their creation with accessories in Build-A-Bear Workshop stores. In just under two weeks, the Lalaloopsy World’s Largest PJ Party is scheduled to take place, in which MGA Entertainment will attempt to break the official Guinness World Record for most slumber party participants in multiple locations. The current record stands at 34,000 girls.
Lalaloopsy’s World’s Largest PJ Party will be held on November 15 from 7 to 10 p.m. ET, with live tweets and Facebook posts at twitter.com/lalaloopsy and facebook.com/lalaloopsy, respectively, from the event. Anyone can join the fun using the hashtag #LalaPJParty, and participants will have a chance to win prizes, answer trivia questions, and enjoy Lalaloopsy activities.

Licensing Expo, the annual meeting place for the global licensing industry, occurred last week in Las Vegas. The exhibitors included a number of the top toy companies, which were on-hand showing off upcoming play products and making announcements about new licensing deals.

MGA Entertainment (MGAE) has appointed Anne Gates as president. Gates joined MGAE in early 2014 and MGA says she has proven to be a strategic and creative leader for the company’s portfolio of family entertainment franchises. In her new role, Gates will oversee all of MGAE’s global businesses and operations.

MGA Entertainment has signed a two-year agreement with Viacom to air the first two seasons of the Lalaloopsy television program internationally on its Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. networks, kicking off the second season on Nick Jr. on June 7 in the U.S. Based on MGA’s doll line, the 52 episodes will also air in Germany, Russia, Benelux, Greece, Turkey, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, South Africa and Pan Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Palau, Brunei, Macau, Mongolia, South Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, Myanmar, and U.S. military bases).
In addition, Viacom has granted Lalaloopsy Babies its own TV special, which will air on Nick Jr. and be available on DVD this October.
