Monopoly Turns 80 with New Products, Entertainment, and Events

Monopoly80AnniversaryEditionThis year, Hasbro Inc. will celebrate the 80th anniversary of Monopoly by offering multiple ways to experience the gaming brand, including new products, entertainment, and events. The Monopoly 80th Anniversary Edition game features a vintage-styled board, cards, and money, as well as wooden houses and hotels. It also has the classic tokens such as the lantern and the bag of money.

In addition, the game is coming to TV screens through a nationally syndicated weekly game show, Monopoly Millionaires’ Club, hosted by Bill Gardell. It will air on the Game Show Network later this year.

Monopoly fans from all over the world can gather to celebrate the brand’s anniversary at the Monopoly World Championship event, scheduled for September 7 to 9 at The Venetian in Macau. Fans can also join in on the conversation at facebook.com/monopoly or by using the hashtag #MONOPOLY80.

CafePress Launches Holiday Giving Campaign for Toys for Tots

A collaborative effort launched today between CafePress, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation, Hasbro, and My Life Games LLC will help provide children in need with toys at the holidays.

Through this first-year campaign, CafePress will provide consumers with three different ways to support Toys for Tots, including $1 donated for every Facebook “Share” given to the video entitled, “Toys for Tots: Every Child Deserves a Little Christmas.” Other means include $1 donated from the final purchase price of all customizable Monopoly and Scrabble games sold on cafepress.com; and $2 donated from the sale of two special edition T-shirts, each priced at $7.

“We are honored to support Toys for Tots this holiday season,” said Fred Durham, CEO and co-founder of CafePress. “To be able to support their noble efforts by donating a portion of proceeds of games known for bringing families together is ideal.”

Hasbro and Ubisoft to Launch Hasbro Game Channel on Xbox, PlayStation Consoles

MonopolyPlusHasbro and Ubisoft have announced the Hasbro Game Channel, a destination for family game entertainment on leading consoles, featuring games based on Hasbro’s most popular brands. The Hasbro Game Channel will be available to download this fall on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. All games will also be available for download individually on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The first three games available on the Hasbro Game Channel will be Monopoly Plus, a customizable 3-D version of the game that lets up to six players choose their own house rules; Risk, where players will venture into simulating modern warfare combat with a new strategic experience and modern armies; and Trivial Pursuit Live! will test fans on the trivia game with a TV-show setting and reinvented question formats.

But the next time the weather is uncompromising, consider having a family game night in, though I know what you’re thinking: Please, not another children’s game.

It can be difficult choosing a game everyone agrees on; parents are frequently disconnected, and youngsters who are a few years apart in age constantly battle over which game should be the one played. But a new trend in the toy industry could stop these common issues before game night even begins. TMNT-Themed Monopoly Games to Hit Stores

Under license from Hasbro, two new Monopoly games inspired by the much anticipated summer blockbuster, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles–Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Edition and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collectors Edition–are set to hit stores this fall.

Teenage Mutant Turtles Collector’s Edition, meanwhile, will give fans the opportunity to sell and trade the notorious Turtle villains, and properties can be claimed and enhanced with custom pizza slices and pizza boxes, which replaces the traditional Monopoly houses and hotels.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on August 8th in theaters worldwide.
