Dark Horse Announces Upcoming Game of Thrones Figures

tyrionDark Horse has partnered with HBO Global Licensing to provide the Game of Thrones audience with a line of collectibles from the hit series. Building on a collection of highly anticipated figures, three new Game of Thrones characters are making their worldwide debut this week: Tyrion Lannister, Ned Stark, and Khal Drogo.

After public display at New York Comic Con, all three will appear in Diamond‘s Previews catalog later this month for retailer and collector advance orders. They join the already-solicited figures of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, unveiled this summer at Comic-Con International: San Diego, in Dark Horse’s growing Game of Thrones figure line. The non-articulated figures measure from 6.25 to 8.75 inches in height and are based on the likenesses of the respective actors, all of whom have approved the sculptures. The paint application reproduces the nuances of each character’s overall appearance.

The figures will be presented in deluxe window-box packaging, further underscoring the aesthetic of the HBO series with their graphic design. These figures arrive on shelves in April.

Uglydoll has released a new line including several new products. Uglydoll has partnered with companies, such as Viz Media, DC Superheroes, and Universal Monsters, to assist in different product categories.

Uglydoll has partnered with Viz Media on a comic book series to include four volume series releases with Volume 1 Goin Places and Volume 2 SHHHHHHHH! already released and Volume 3 and Volume 4 following next year.

Collaborations with DC Superheroes and Universal Monsters have been released with Universal Monsters being featured during New York Comic Con. This will continue the plush toy line. The new plush Uglydolls being released are Mathlete Babo, Tae Kwon Wage, and Heavy Lifter Ice-Bat. Also, the themed dolls that love to eat are Ox with Pizza, Ice-Bat with Ice cream, Jeero with Pretzel.

 

Ubisoft Will Feature Watch Dogs at New York Comic Con

Ubisoft.logoUbisoft’s lineup for New York Comic Con will feature the companion app for Watch Dogs, the company’s upcoming open-world action-adventure video game, and its The Next Level competition. Attendees can check out the company’s booths between October 10 and 13 at the Javits Center in New York City.

At the Watch Dogs theater, the adversarial mode of the app Watch Dogs—ctOS Mobile, will be highlighting ways in which players can invade each others’ games within the world of Watch Dogs. Players take on the role of Aiden Pierce, a vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, can hack into Chicago’s central operating system and control almost every element of the city.

The Next Level puts attendees’ gaming skills to the test in head-to-head competitions. Gamers will try their hand at popular Ubisoft titles, including Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Just Dance 2014, and The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, before facing-off in a mystery title for the final round. Each day, the winner of The Next Level competition walks away with a package that includes a gaming PC, a next-generation console with pre-ordered hardware, and tickets to PAX East 2014.

DC Collectibles Announces “Con Exclusives” for New York Comic-Con

poisonivyDC Collectibles, the high-end toy and collectible line from DC Entertainment, has revealed two new “con exclusive” products that will only be available for purchase at New York Comic-Con 2013.

The first is a Super Best Friends Forever: Poison Ivy PVC Figure, designed by Lauren Faust and sculpted by Irene Matar. Super Best Friends Forever is from the popular interstitial shorts shown during DC Nation on Cartoon Network. Poison Ivy measures approximately 6.625 inches tall.

The second con exclusive is a DC Comics Super Heroes: Hal Jordan & Saint Walker Action Figure 2-pack sculpted by Robert Lynders. This set is the latest in the 3.75-inch scale. The 3.75-inch action figures continue to be a must-have con exclusive from DC Collectibles.

COMMENTARY: Kids Getting Older Younger—Or Younger Older?

Everyone always talks about how kids are getting older younger. Kids as young as 8 years old are swapping their Barbie dolls and Transformers for iPods and tablets—but this isn’t the case for everyone. There are big kids everywhere, and toys have a funny little habit of bringing an adult’s inner-child giggling wildly to the surface.

Nostalgia is a huge trend in toys today—classic properties such as The Smurfs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Pac-Man have resurfaced and are engaging a whole new generation. Traditional toys, such as Hasbro’s Easy Bake Oven, Kahootz’s Spirograph, and POOF-Slinky’s Slinky, all still appeal to young kids the same way they did decades ago. However, adults and older kids will find just as much fun in new products primarily targeted toward youngsters, too.

A family friend’s daughter, Karli, had her wrist covered in the colorful rubber bracelets that are a product of Rainbow Loom, from Choon’s Designs. A huge craze among kids, I was enamored by the bracelets and begged her to teach me how to make one. She did, and of course, hers came out better. I’ve been staring at it on my wrist every day since she made it for me, and I was extremely tempted to purchase my own loom when I went into a Michael’s craft store and saw the enormous display (but I thought to myself: “You’re 23 years old, Marissa! Taking home product samples is one thing, but you cannot justify BUYING a toy!”).

Reed Pop Launches Online Store with Star Wars Merchandise

ReedPop August 13ReedPOP, organizer of pop culture conventions including New York Comic ConStar Wars Celebration, and C2E2, has unveiled ReedPOP Supply Co.’s online store that sells ReedPOP convention exclusives and original licensed merchandise. The ReedPOP Supply Co. launched on July 26, simultaneously with this year’s Star Wars Celebration Europe, and it currently stocks a selection of original, official Star Wars Celebration goods available nowhere else. New York Comic Con, C2E2, and other ReedPOP products will be added over the coming weeks.

The ReedPOP Supply Co. presently houses more than 20 Star Wars Celebration limited-edition items, all unique, online variants of exclusives offered at this year’s Star Wars Celebration as well as at previous years’ Star Wars conventions. Exclusives include the Hoth Blue Milk Brewing Co. Glass (from Celebration V), the ABC’s of Star Wars Woven Blanket (from Celebration VI), and the world exclusive Star Wars Rebels Logo T-shirt—the logo was revealed at this year’s Star Wars Celebration Europe.

Hasbro Reveals New Transformers Line at New York Comic Con

You know the Autobots. You know the Decepticons. But now, there’s a new breed of alien robot in town: the Predacons.

Thursday afternoon, hundred of fans sat in a crowded conference room in the Jacob K. Javits Center at New York Comic Con 2012 as Hasbro rolled out the latest line of Transformers toys: The Beast Hunters.

The Beast Hunters will be the touchstone for the Transformers brand next year, driven by Transformers Prime, the animated series produced by Hasbro Studios. The show airs on The Hub television network in the U.S. and is viewed by fans in more than 170 countries around the world. [Read more...]

Bringing Back Captain Action

Captain Action is making a comeback this October. Round 2, LLC and Captain Action Enterprises have enlisted Joe Jusko to design the packaging of toys in the new Captain Action line.

Jusko, the current cover artist on Dynamite’s Warlord of Mars series, was picked to maintain the authentic comic book feel of the packaging by developing a new illustration for the lead character. In addition to producing numerous covers over his 35-year career, Jusko was also a big fan of Captain Action as a child in the late 60s.

Captain Action is a 12-inch action figure who has the ability to transform into various comic book and pop culture icons by changing into different costumes. The new Captain Action toys, produced by Round 2, LLC, will feature a Captain Action figure and costume sets for Marvel comic book heroes Captain America and Spider-Man.

The new line will debut at New York Comic Con, to be held October 13-16.

New Ben 10 Sweepstakes to Give Away Exclusive Go-Kart

Bandai America Incorporated is giving away an exclusive Ben 10 Mark 10-style go-kart and other weekly prizes as a part of its Ben 10: Ultimate Alien Go-Kart Sweepstakes.  Launched on October 10 (10-10-10), Ben 10 fans can enter to win the prizes by visiting www.bandai.com/uasweepstakes. The contest will span 10 weeks.

The limited edition go-kart made its public premiere at New York Comic Con’s Kid’s Day on Sunday, where attendees had the chance to take a commemorative photo with the vehicle and receive Ultimate Alien mini-posters.
