New Power Rangers to Debut at Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade

The newest Power Rangers, the Samurai, will make its U.S. debut at the 84th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, to be held November 25 in New York City. Using their Samurai powers, which give them control over the elements of Fire, Water, Sky, Forest, and Earth, the Rangers will take their first journey together as they escort the Planet Earth balloon through the streets of Manhattan.

The Power Rangers franchise was acquired by Saban Brands earlier this year. Forty episodes of Power Rangers Samurai are currently in production and will premiere on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in North America early next year.  After the Macy’s Parade, fans can tune in to Nickelodeon for a special first look at the new series.

Activision, Nickelodeon to Release New iCarly Video Game

This fall, Activision Publishing, Inc. and Nickelodeon will release a second game based on the Nickelodeon television series iCarly. iCarly 2: iJoin the Click, which will be available for the Wii and Nintendo DS, puts players in the role of a new student at Ridgeway High. Players interact with characters from the show, create new webisodes, and compete in challenges and mini games while they explore locations featured in the show.

The game will be available internationally this fall.

MarVista Entertainment Gains Rights to Power Rangers

Saban Brands has granted MarVista Entertainment (MVE) international distribution rights to its Power Rangers television series . As part of the deal, MVE will handle global sales of the Power Ranger’s 700-episode catalog, which will continue to expand in 2011 when the 18th season airs on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons. Further details and products will be announced at MIPCOM this October in Cannes, France.

Nickelodeon Gives Greenlight for The Legend of Korra Series

Nickelodeon has given the go-ahead to develop The Legend of Korra, a new series from the creators of the television series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series, which will continue the Avatar animated franchise, will premiere on Nickelodeon in 2011.

The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and follows the adventures of Korra, a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenage girl from the Southern Water Tribe. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air.

The new series will be produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif., and is co-executive produced by Joaquim Dos Santos.

Max and Ruby Gets Theatrical Adaptation

Koba Entertainment has added Max and Ruby: Bunny Party, a musical adaptation of  Nickelodeon’s Max and Ruby series, to its family of touring theatrical productions. The 90-minute theatrical event is currently in production and is backed by a creative team that includes Max and Ruby book series creator Rosemary Wells as the script consultant and Norman Foote as the music and lyrics writer. The show will be directed and conceived by Patti Caplette.

The theatrical tour will begin in western Canada this fall and will continue throughout Canada and the United States into 2011. Koba Entertainment will hold exclusive theatrical rights for Max and Ruby in North America.

Nickelodeon to Release Laurie Berkner Band DVD

Nickelodeon Home Entertainment has announced the release of a Laurie Berkner Band compilation DVD, which will be distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment and will be available in stores September 28. The DVD will include some of Berkner’s most popular songs, as well as music videos from performances on Jack’s Big Music Show. The DVD will run 44 minutes.

Laurie Berkner was the first children’s singer to appear in music videos on Nickelodeon. She has written two books and has released six CDs, as well as a quadruple-platinum-selling DVD.

Nickelodeon and NFL Collaborate on New TV Property

Nickelodeon and the National Football League has announced the development of a new animated series. Rush Zone: Guardians of the Core will be a 22-episode, weekly short-form series based on the NFL Rush Zone children’s website. Episodes begin airing this fall, coinciding with the start of the NFL season. The season will culminate with a one-hour long special following the Super Bowl in February.

Rush Zone follows 10-year-old Ishmael as he guards a benevolent life force, housed within each of the NFL’s 32 stadiums, from villain Sudden Death. Endowed with special powers and the strength of a football player, Ishmael must battle evil robots, while being mentored by NFL coaches and players who voice themselves.

The short runs approximately two to five minutes and will be available on nicktoons.com and nflrush.com after airing on the Nickelodeon network. Rush Zone is also being produced in high definition for use on jumbotrons during games.

Nickelodeon and Wiley to Release Dora the Explorer Cookbook

Nickelodeon Consumer Products (NCP) and Wiley have announced that they are partnering to publish Dora and Diego Let’s Cook, a children’s cookbook based on Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer series. The cookbook will include 50 recipes featuring the the show’s characters, words and phrases in Spanish, Kid Help icons denoting the steps in recipes where children can help, and nutrition and safety information for children.

The book will be released in August and will retail for $16.95. The book is the first of two Nickelodeon-branded children’s cookbooks and will be followed by a SpongeBob SquarePants cookbook in fall 2011.

NCP also recently announced a licensing agreement with Allstar Products Group to produce SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer Snuggie Blankets, Bendaroos building sticks, and Touch N’ Brush Hands Free Toothpaste Dispensers.

Nick Launches Merchandising Programs for Series

Nickelodeon Consumer Products (NCP) is launching merchandising and licensing programs for four of its popular series: Big Time Rush, Victorious, Fanboy and Chum Chum, and Team Umizoomi. The programs will span toys, accessories, home décor, apparel, packaged goods, social expressions, and more.

Big Time Rush is a live-action series that chronicles the journey of four best friends who get a chance to be part of the glamorous L.A. pop music scene. 

Victorious is a series about a teen called Tori who lands an invitation to enroll in an elite performing arts high school. As she navigates her way through the school and its challenging curriculum, she meets other gifted teens like herself.

Fanboy & Chum Chum, which averages 32 million monthly viewers, tells the story of a boy named Fanboy; his best friend and trusty sidekick, Chum Chum; and their hyper imagination.

Team Umizoomi, a preschool series focused entirely on math, combines action-adventure missions with an interactive math curriculum.

The Last Airbender Products to be Released This Summer

Nickelodeon Consumer Products (NCP) has announced a full slate of consumer products for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies’ live-action, July 2 theatrical release, The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The line-up of products inspired by the film will be available this summer through the holiday season.

Consumers can expect to see almost 30 new products in a number of categories including publishing, home décor, apparel, jewelry, and accessories.

Some of the licensees on board for the franchise include action figures, play sets, role play items, vehicles, and more from Spin Master; video games from THQ; construction-themed sets and products from Mega; DVDs from Paramount Home Entertainment; party goods from American Greetings; customizable goods from HP; prequel manga, movie manga, and cinemanga from Del Rey Manga; junior novelization, movie storybook, ready to reads, and lost scrolls collection from Simon and Schuster; an activity digest, a full-color scrapbook, and an activity book from Random House; and Mad Libs from Penguin/Grosset Dunlap.
