Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare Is Now Available on PC

June24 plants vs zombiesPopCap Games, a division of Electronic Arts Inc., has launched Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare for PC on Origin and retailers worldwide. Players choose a side and square off in combat against plant or zombie opponents, utilizing an arsenal of outrageous weaponry. Character favorites from the franchise such as Sunflower and Chomper reprise their roles, and the game also introduces new characters such as Ice Cactus and All-Star Zombie.

Players also get to play new free game content, including the Garden Variety Pack and Zomboss Down.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare features four distinct game play modes, including 2 to 4 player co-op, 12 vs. 12 competitive multiplayer called Gardens & Graveyards and Team Vanquish, and eight vs. eight Gnome Bomb. Players can also use Jewel Junction, a new multiplayer map. [Read more...]

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Embraces Next Generation Gaming Technology

CallofDutyAdvancedWarfareThe next generation of the Call of Duty franchise will focus on one thing: power. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare by Activision Publishing Inc. will include a new advanced soldier, all-new exoskeleton gameplay mechanics, and film/TV star Kevin Spacey. Sledgehammer Games is currently developing the game for next generation consoles and PC.

The game is set in the year 2054, when a private military corporation has emerged with the power to rescue humanity and rebuild the world, which is struggling to recover after a global attack. Atari’s New Minimum Features Maximum Customization

Minimum.TitansAtari will release a third-person perspective, multiplayer online combat game, Minimum, for PC. It will be available for early access on Steam this spring.

Set in a minimalistic, stylized universe, Minimum features session-based combat that pits teams of five against each other with craftable weapons. Each team has their own gigantic, robotic Titan that they power up, which helps them fight and destroy the enemy’s base. At the core of Minimum is an elaborate blueprint crafting system, where players collect resources to create customized weapons and armor that can be powered up.

Minimum was created by TimeGate Studios, which early on, engaged in discussions to cooperate with Atari on the project. Atari then worked with TimeGate to help extricate Minimum out of the TimeGate bankruptcy. Human Head Studios, a Madison, Wisc.-based developer, helped Atari to further develop the game.

NPD Reports Xbox One and PlayStation 4 Powered Video Game Sales

According to the U.S. Games Industry Sales analysis by The NPD Group’s Liam Callahan, February hardware sales increased by 42 percent over the prior year, due to a more than 60 percent increase in console hardware sales. These strong year-over-year increases are due to the success of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The analysis also showed that total video game sales in February were $887 million, a change of 9 percent compared to February 2013. Warner Bros. Throws Down Gauntlet, This Time for Digital Game Service

GauntletAn updated action-RPG version of the classic dungeon crawler, Gauntlet, will be available this summer via Steam for PC. Courtesy of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it will lead the launch of WB Games Vault, a direct-to-digital portfolio that will deliver paid games based on popular Warner Bros. and Midway brands across multiple digital networks.

Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, Gauntlet lets players select from four classic fantasy-based characters: Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie, or Elf. Each character has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. Meanwhile, gameplay is set within dungeons where the object is to fight through the chambers, slaying evil creatures and completing challenges.

The Rise of Titanfall Begins This Week

2D Boxshot Wizard v1.1Titanfall, from Electronic Arts Inc. and independent video game developer Respawn Entertainment, is now available at retail stores across North America for Xbox One and Origin.com for PC. The game features first-person action game play centered on the dynamic between elite assault pilots and agile, 24-foot armored titans. Players can shift back and forth between pilots and titans, allowing for fast-paced and varied action.

Titanfall will be available on Xbox One and PC in Europe beginning March 13, and in the UK on March 14. The Xbox 360 version, developed by Bluepoint Games, will be available beginning March 25. There will also be a Titanfall Season Pass that includes three content packs, which can be purchased for the Xbox One and on Origin for PC. The Season Pass for Xbox 360 will be available starting March 25.

Plants vs. Zombies Declares Garden Warfare on Xbox Systems

PlantsvsZombies.GardenWarfarePopCap Games, a division of Electronic Arts Inc., has announced that Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare will be shipping for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 video game systems on February 18 in North America and February 20 in Europe. The game is a third-person multiplayer shooter that lets players become favorite characters from the franchise.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare features 3-D worlds, more than 10 maps, and three distinct modes, including two competitive, multiplayer modes called Garden & Graveyards and Team Vanquish. There is also a four-player cooperative mode called Garden Ops. In Garden & Graveyards, plants must defend their garden bases from zombies attempting to turn them into graveyards. Players can also square off in Team Vanquish and try to send the other team to the compost pile. Meanwhile, Garden Ops lets gamers work together to battle off waves of zombies on the attack.

In the Xbox One version, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare includes two extra modes: local cooperative split screen and Boss Mode. With split screen, players can team up with a friend to fight endless hordes of zombies, while in Boss Mode, gamers utilize their Kinect or SmartGlass device in any of the other gameplay modes to support their respective teams.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare is available for pre-order at major retailers nationwide and at www.origin.com. A PC version will be released at a later date.

Ubisoft Releases Trailer for Rocksmith 2014 Edition Session Mode

RocksmithUbisoft has released a trailer showcasing Session Mode, a new groundbreaking feature of Rocksmith 2014 Edition.

In Session Mode, players lead a band that plays along with them and follows their lead, and in the process, learn to improvise and create their own music. Players can jam with a friend in Multiplayer mode and create their own band experience.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition allows players to plug any real guitar or bass directly into their Xbox 360PlayStation 3, PC, or Mac to begin their musical journey. Rocksmith 2014 Edition will launch on October 22.

SimCity Cities of Tomorrow Expansion Pack Coming in November

SimCityCOTElectronic Arts is developing a SimCity Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack for Mac and PC that will be arriving on November 12. The expansion lets players transform their cities as they take a journey 50 years into the future, and to shape them using new technologies and experimental urban planning techniques.

Players will have the option of creating a utopian society underpinned by clean technology under the auspices of the Academy, or to encourage OmegaCo, a giant corporation, to strip-mine natural resources and pollute. Meanwhile, for the first time in the franchise’s history, cities can be built vertically with enormous, multi-zone MegaTowers that extend high into the sky.

Education and research are also factors in the game, and can help players discover new technologies that make their cities less polluted, less reliant on natural resources, managed day-to-day by service drones, and fueled by green energy. Whenever players have finished deciding whether they want their Sims living together in harmony, they can unleash new disasters exclusive to the expansion pack.

Since its launch in March, SimCity has had seven major game updates. SimCity Cities of Tomorrow will be available for Mac and PC, and is not yet rated. Pre-orders will begin soon at www.SimCity.com.

Scholastic Partners with Twin Sisters For New Storia Content

Scholastic has announced an agreement with Twin Sisters Productions to offer a selection of musical and non-fiction books on Storia, the e-Reading app for kids. Books from Twin Sisters will be available on Storia, through Scholastic Book Clubs, and at Scholastic Book Fairs next year. Storia is available for free download on PC, iPad, and select Android devices.
