Nintendo Launches Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

Mario&SonicSochi2014With the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, approaching, Nintendo will release Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games on November 15 for the Wii U console. In the game, characters from the Mario and Sonic universes–such as Mario, Sonic, Princess Peach, and Tails–compete in Olympic Winter Events like snowboard slopestyle, which is making its debut in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games utilizes both the Wii U GamePad and Wii Remote Plus controllers. In the four-man bobsled, one player stands at the front of a line and uses the GamePad like a steering wheel, while the other players stand behind him or her and use Wii Remote Plus controllers to lean into each turn on the track. Meanwhile, in pairs figure skating, two players will swing, twist, and pose in sync, sometimes holding the same Wii Remote Plus controller to perform cooperative moves.

In biathlon, players must switch between the GamePad and Wii Remote Plus controllers to shoot and ski. Finally, in snowboard slopestyle, players race down a slope on a snowboard, performing jumps and tricks using the touch screen on the GamePad controller to score points. [Read more...]

Nintendo Teams Up with Snowboarder Jamie Anderson for Road to Sochi 100 Day Countdown

NintendoNintendo has partnered with the U.S. Olympic Committee to kick off its nationwide Road to Sochi Tour in Times Square in New York City on October 29 with a 100 Day Countdown event, celebrating 100 days until the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The event will take up three blocks in  Times Square and will include athlete demonstrations on a ski and snowboard ramp, as well as an ice rink for curling, figure skating, speedskating, and ice hockey.

Nintendo will also be there with hands-on demos for its new game, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, which launches for Wii U on November 15. The game features characters from the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog universes competing together in 24 winter events, including the new event snowboard slopestyle, which is making its Olympic Winter Games debut in Sochi.

Jamie Anderson, slopestyle snowboarder and six-time X Games medalist, will be at the event to help promote Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. He may meet with visitors in a designated area. In addition, the Mario and Sonic costumed characters will make appearances to take photos with attendees.
