The announcement of the ToyAward winners kicked off the Spielwarenmesse Toy Fair in Neuremberg on Jan. 27. ToyAwards were bestowed in four different age-specific categories. A ten-member expert jury made up of educators, market researchers, international sales agents and, an expert in toy safety chose the winners out of a record-breaking 616 submissions. The criterion for the awards are play fun, originality, safety, finish and quality, comprehensibility of the product concept, and potential for success.
The WIT Panel Discussion: Shifting Trends in Toys, Licensing, and Entertainment will bring industry experts to share business insights with the audience. Topics to be discussed include kid trends in the toy business, the future of licensing, the popularity of STEM toys, changing trends in crowdfunding and social media, and more. Panelists include Trudi Bishop, head of marketing and licensing at Cartamundi; Dr. Amanda Gummer, founder and CEO of Fundamentally Children; Fay Goodman, managing director of Goodmedia Ltd.; and will be moderated by Patti Becker, CEO and founder of Becker Associates LLC. The Toy Business Forum at Spielwarenmesse 2016 will offer visitors to the trade fair complementary lectures and discussion forums on the daily, changing, and current topics in the toy industry. International trade experts will speak about toy tends, marketing know-how, highlights from the international licensing business, and other topics. The Toy Business Forum will take place from January 27 to 31 in TrendGallery, hall 3A, every day between 1 and 3 p.m.

Spielwarenmesse eG has released a report summarizing the results of the 66th Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg. The total number of exhibitors was 2,857, up from 2,748 during the prior year. International exhibitors totaled 2,051 and represented 67 countries, up from 1,951 exhibitors and 61 countries during the previous year. Last week, Spielwarenmesse enjoyed an increase in the number of international visitors, which rose to 58 percent, as reported by Spielwarenmesse eG.
