Faber-Castell Launches Terracycle Project

Faber-Castell Premium Children’s Art Products has partnered with Terracycle to offer recycling of plastic marker barrels. Teachers and students can place finished markers into a collection box, which will be sent to a UPS collection facility when full. Terracycle will then sort, store, and recycle the plastic marker barrels.

New Jersey and Texas Students Take Home Grand Prize at National School Scrabble Championship

SchoolScrabbleWinnersNew Jersey and Texas eighth graders outscored more than 65 teams to win the 12th annual National School Scrabble Championship, which took place this past weekend at One Hasbro Place in downtown Providence, R.I.

The team of Jacob Sass, of Magnolia, Texas, and Thomas Draper of Skillman, N.J., won six of seven preliminary games during the two-day tournament, and went on to win Sunday’s final match by a score of 378 to 320. Their highest-scoring word during the game was delaine, a type of fabric, for 76 points.

Sass and Draper received the Champion’s Trophy, and will split the grand prize of $10,000. The National School Scrabble Championship is a competitive event for school-aged Scrabble players in the United States and Canada, hosted by Hasbro Inc.

K’NEX Introduces Four New K’NEX Education Building Sets

Ideal for classroom and home use, K’NEX Education sets offer hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning for kids ages 9 and up. The new K’NEX Education sets are designed for small groups of students (between three and four kids), and bacsoon_logoteach concepts through problem solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and critical thinking. Students will be able to investigate, explore, and experiment with the K’NEX simple machine models as they analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information. The included teacher’s guide features student inquiry sheets and worksheets for the models highlighted, and asks questions and presents challenges that can be used to help students think more deeply about the concepts involved.  The set includes 332 K’NEX parts.
