The Hall of Fame at The Strong museum in Rochester, N.Y., announced the finalists on Monday. A ceremony at The Strong on November 6 will reveal this year’s inductees.
Toys were carted through the three children’s areas at the hospital, including the pediatric ward; the pediatric outpatient clinic, where children were receiving their chemotherapy treatments; and the hospital’s playground.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star Megan Fox, Anger Management star Brian Austin Green, Olympic Gold Medalist Carmelita Jeter, MMA fighter Tito Ortiz, comedy magician Eric Buss, The Twilight Saga films star Jackson Rathbone, Brett Davern of MTV’s Awkward, and Corbin Bleu of High School Musical distributed toys to nearly three dozen patients. When you step inside Hollywood Heroes in Westwood, N.J., you can literally smell the nostalgia (for those of you who are unfamiliar, nostalgia smells similar to dust-covered cardboard and childhood memories—but like, in a good way). In the collectible toy shop, bright lights beam down on glass cases displaying superhero relics with more than 40 years under their utility belts, making these toys anything but child’s play.
Owner of the shop and star of the Travel Channel series Toy Hunter, Jordan Hembrough is an expert in the art of toy collecting, with more than 25 years of professional experience dealing toys. However, toys were always an integral part of Hembrough’s life. From schoolyard selling, Hembrough entered the big-time after college, when he secured a job as a buyer for StarLog, a chain of science-fiction-focused retail stores. Inc., under license with Nickelodeon, has launched officially licensed costumes, masks, and accessories based on the soon-to-be-released film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, by Nickelodeon Movies and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Available in child and adult sizes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Costume Collection includes: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello. The new product line reflects a modern day interpretation of the popular franchise.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arrives in theaters on August 8, and the costume collection by Rubie’s is available now for Halloween.
The Heroes in a Half Shell, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, will be seen in a whole new light, thanks to a new partnership from USAopoly and Nickelodeon. Under license from Hasbro, two new Monopoly games inspired by the much anticipated summer blockbuster, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles–Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Edition and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collectors Edition–are set to hit stores this fall.
In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Edition, fans of the popular television show will be able to vie for 22 popular locations found in the animated series. Teenage Mutant Turtles Collector’s Edition, meanwhile, will give fans the opportunity to sell and trade the notorious Turtle villains, and properties can be claimed and enhanced with custom pizza slices and pizza boxes, which replaces the traditional Monopoly houses and hotels.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on August 8th in theaters worldwide.
At Comic-Con International: San Diego this week, Lego Systems Inc. will unveil new products, including two Lego Super Heroes: DC Comics sets scheduled to launch next year, one of which is an 1,800-piece tumbler.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of this December’s theatrical release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Lego Systems will preview one of the new Lego the Hobbit sets slated to arrive in stores this October. The company will also show off an upcoming set based on The Lego Movie, as well as sets based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series and new feature film.
Finally, Lego Systems will unveil the fourth wave of Lego Mixels characters and content, set to launch next year.
Barnes & Noble will bring pop culture favorite books, comics, superheroes, and television shows to life in stores nationwide from July 18 through August 10. The Get Pop Cultured with Barnes & Noble series of themed events will feature panel discussions, contests, exclusive content, giveaways and prizes, sneak peeks, activities, and more featuring popular characters, DVDs, artists, illustrators, and pop culture icons.
The campaign will highlight the influence that books, graphic novels, movies, TV shows, music, toys, games, and collectibles have on culture. Get Pop Cultured with Barnes & Noble will kick off with a preview weekend and costume contest from July 18 to 20. All Barnes & Noble stores will have limited quantities of free, never-before-seen samplers of upcoming releases, posters, and digital downloads during Preview Weekend. Other events include Batman Day on July 23, where all Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will sell exclusive merchandise; the DC Comics Spectacular from July 23 to July 27, which will offer fans a chance to celebrate DC Comics with activities, special giveaways, and a limited time offer on graphic novels; a sing-along and story time event, Frozen Friday: Cool Off with Olaf! on August 1; Marvel Day on August 2, which will feature Marvel Comics-themed activities, giveaways, and product offerings; and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Jr. Ninja Training Academy Event, which will include activities, crafts, and a Ninja training event.
There will also be special guests such as Grumpy Cat, Christopher Paolini, and various authors.
Snap Creative will release five collectible and promotional toy programs at movie theaters worldwide for the summer’s top blockbusters. The launch is rolling out throughout the summer, coinciding with the releases of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon 2, Paramount and Hasbro’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Movie-going fans can collect two or three different highly detailed figures or key chains from each feature, along with reusable cups and popcorn packs. These collectible packages will be available in theater chains worldwide in the U.S., China, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Spain, Vietnam, Thailand, and more.
Licensing Expo, the annual meeting place for the global licensing industry, occurred last week in Las Vegas. The exhibitors included a number of the top toy companies, which were on-hand showing off upcoming play products and making announcements about new licensing deals.
