Corus Entertainment‘s Nelvana has partnered with The Topps Company, Playmates Toys, and Nickelodeon for Mysticons, which will make its global debut in 2017. Playmates Toys will act as the global master toy partner for Mysticons, and Nelvana is developing the franchise into a half-hour animated TV series, which will enter production later this year.
According to The NPD Group, sales of World Cup-themed toys have been growing since the start of the year, as fever for the event starts to take hold across the UK. One toy out of every nine sold, or over 9.1 million toys, have been linked to the competition.
More than one quarter, or 27 percent, of all toys sold in the week commencing May 11 were related to the tournament, with the best-selling toy that week being Panini’s World Cup Brazil Official sticker album. Pacific Animation Partners—the joint venture formed by Jakks Pacific, Dentsu Entertainment USA, and FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME)— has announced that The Topps Company has signed on for its new animated entertainment property, Monsuno. Topps will be an investor in the production of the animated TV series, as well as a licensee and partner on trading card games, confectioneries, and related products.
