Chicago Toy and Game Fair, Girl Scouts Hope to Earn Guinness World Record Patch

Top Trumps to Sponsor Girl Scouts of America; Quest for Most People Playing Cards at Same Time

Calling all Girl Scouts. Just when you thought you had sampled all of your favorites, the Chicago Toy and Game Group (ChiTAG) is proud to announce they will add another “sweet spot” in addition to all other events at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair, to be held on November 17 and 18 at Navy Pier. The Girl Scouts of America and Top Trumps at ChiTAG will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for “Most People Playing a Card Game Simultaneously in the Same City.” The game is scheduled for November 17 at 3 p.m.

The current record was set in 2010 while 2,292 people played the popular Spanish card game, Mus. Mus in El Correo, Spain. The Girl Scouts card game of choice will be Top Trumps

Each Girl Scout member to participate will receive an exclusive “Top Trumps Moshi Monsters Participation” patch. ChiTAG will offer free admission to the Fair to all uniformed Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders, as well as Girl Scout Family discount passes.

Top Trumps has selected Moshi Monsters as the featured licensed brand while sponsoring the Girl Scouts of America this fall. Both Top Trumps and Moshi Monsters will exhibit at ChiTAG in November. For more inquiries regarding ChiTAG, visit www.chitag.com.

Top Trumps Championship Announces Winner

On September 1 at 10 a.m., 40 VIP guests and onlookers gathered to watch the six semi-finalists compete for the grand prize in the Top Trumps Championship. The championship was held on the 67th floor of The Top of The Rock Observation Deck in New York City.

This year’s winner, 11-year-old Shawal Malik, took home the prize package (valued at over $750), which included admission to the Top of The Rock Observation Deck for his entire class, 10 passes to The Bronx Zoo, Moshi Monster plush and collectibles, various Top Trumps games, and the Top Trumps Championship Trophy.

The Top Trumps competition was part of a six-week program in conjunction with the Queens and Brooklyn Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, held from July 12 to August 21. To qualify, children had to visit a participating branch of a Queens or Brooklyn Public Library to play rounds of Top Trumps. Participants were given scorecards and each time they won a round, the librarian would reward the player with a sticker on his or her scorecard. For every five games won, the child earned a prize, and if the child won 15 games by August 21 he or she won the right to enter the online tournament. The children then competed online to earn a spot as semi-finalists on the leader board.

Fall Toy Preview: New Top Trumps Cards

Top Trumps card games are similar to War, which is played with normal playing cards. But instead of featuring a number and a suit, Top Trumps cards feature statistics such as speed, skill, strength, and more that coincide with the theme of the deck. The object of the game is to beat—or trump—your opponent’s card by choosing your best stat for that card. The player that trumps wins the card, and the game keeps going until a player wins the entire deck.

New Top Trumps card games for 2011 will include Moshi Monsters, Go Go Crazy Bones, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Top Trumps Activity Super Hero Squad, and Top Trumps Tournament Marvel.
