Toy Fair 2017 Breaks TIA Records

The largest toy marketplace held in the Western Hemisphere, Toy Fair 2017 boasted a record-breaking 444,309 net square feet of exhibit space—the equivalent of nearly eight football fields filled with toys. TIA Names 2017 Toy Trends

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) named collectibles, active toys, robotics, and more as top toy trends of 2017 at the 114th North American International Toy Fair. The session, held on Feb. 19, 2017, was moderated by Ken Seiter, TIA VP of marketing communications with commentary provided by Adrienne Appell, Isabel Carrión-López and Kristin Morency Goldman.

TIA Announces Toy of the Year 2017 Winners

Moose Toys Reveals Shopkin of the Year at Toy Fair

MooseToysWinnieAwardMoose Toys will reveal the Shopkin of the Year character, Winnie Award, at the North American International Toy Fair, held from Feb. 18 to 21. The hand-crafted Shopkins character is plated in gold and set with five real diamonds.

Following Winnie Award’s appearance at Toy Fair, the golden Shopkin will be auctioned off online later this year. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Toy Industry Foundation. [Read more...]

Record Breaking Toy Donations at Toy Fair Helped 50,000 Children

tblogoAt the end of the 113th North American International Toy Fair, more than 80 Toy Bank volunteers swept the aisles gathering tens of thousands of donated action figures, outdoor toys, ride-ons, dollhouses, board games, and more that were left behind from exhibitors.

The toys, valued at half a million dollars, are currently being sorted and will be sent to CASA for Children in foster care, TIF’s national partner, as well a dozen other New York charities. [Read more...]

Statement from Tech 4 Kids on Passing of Elise Lachowyn

Tech 4 Kids announced the sudden passing of Elise Lachowyn on Friday, February 12. Elise was involved in a tragic accident in New York City on her way to North American International Toy Fair.

Lachowyn leaves behind her husband Drew and 6-year-old daughter, Skyler. Lachowyn was a veteran of the toy industry and a friend and colleague to many.  As a member of the senior leadership team of Tech 4 Kids, Elise was a highly respected, admired, and accomplished individual who will be greatly missed by all.

In loving memory of Elise Lachowyn, Tech 4 Kids has set up a trust fund for Skyler and will be matching all donations.

 

Mattel Debuts New Bob the Builder Line

International Playthings to Showcase 10 Brands at Toy Fair

International Playthings will showcase more than 115 new toys, representing 10 brands, at this year’s North American International Toy Fair in New York City.

The company has added 15 new products to the Calico Critters collection, 18 Aquabeads play sets and accessory sets, 12 additions to Kidoozie, nine new products to Earlyears, two board/action games and six card games, 15 playsets for Imaginetics, 12 additions to the Quercetti product line, several new additions to SmartLab, a new colorful line of vehicles from Viking Toys, and three new products to its Early Learning Centre brand.

Patch Products Changes Name to PlayMonster

PlayMonsterPatchPatch Products has changed its corporate name to Play Monster and will introduce its new name for the first time at the North American International Toy Fair in New York City. The company says that the name change better reflects its commitment to provide play for all ages.

The new name is effective immediately and will begin being implemented across the company’s products and services this calendar year and forward. PlayMonster most recently acquired Roominate to increase its STEM offerings and will add products throughout the year, including My Fairy Garden.
