Toy Industry Foundation Reaches $100 Million Milestone

toyindustryThe Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) has distributed $100 million worth of toys and games to children in need since its Toy Bank program was founded in 2003. The historical milestone was reached following this year’s Summer Toy Drive, which collected $11 million worth of toys. To date, TIF and its supporters have donated enriching playthings to nearly 17 million disadvantaged kids worldwide.

Contributions to the Summer Toy Drive more than quadrupled over last year, growing from nearly 900,000 toys donated in 2013 to nearly four million toys this year. The Lego Group donated roughly 250,000 toys—half of which have already been distributed to children in such locations as Albania, Armenia, Romania, Zambia and Zimbabwe—putting the foundation over the $100 million mark. Toy Industry Foundation Recruits for Leaders Circle

tif_logoToy industry stakeholders who would like to help bring the power of play to children in need are invited to join the Toy Industry Foundation’s (TIF) Leaders Circle giving program by annually donating to TIF. The Leaders Circle raises more than 10 percent of TIF’s annual budget, making it a critical source of funds for core toy donation and grant programs. Currently, the Leaders Circle includes approximately 100 members, and TIF hopes to see it expand in order to keep pace with TIF’s growing toy donation and grant-making activities.

Donors may choose to support specific TIF programs and partnerships, such as The Toy Bank toy donation program benefiting children’s charities across the country, or TIF’s national partnerships with CASA for Children (which helps children in foster care) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America Military Services (which serves children of military families).

To join, make a cash donation of $250 or more to the Toy Industry Foundation online or via regular mail. For more information, contact TIF’s Marisa Medina at (646) 454-5581.

TIF’s Summer Toy Drive Breaks Donation Record

The Toy Industry Foundation (TIF)’s Summer Toy Drive has collected more than 896,000 toys for children. Due to donations from 92 toy companies, TIF’s Toy Bank received more than four times as many toys as last summer. This year’s contributions valued at more than $4.5 million.

Toy distributions kicked off on June 20 with a wild safari-themed giveaway at the Ronald McDonald House in New York City for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The season’s toy giveaways continued with various events hosted by Play Comforts, TIF’s program for military families in partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of America Military Services. More than a dozen U.S. military bases received toys throughout the summer months.

In July, TIF and partner CASA for Children held events in New Jersey and Indiana for children in foster care, and on August 1, TIF celebrated The Toy Bank’s 10th anniversary with the first 50 state toy giveaway, Toys Across America. With the help of 68 charities and logistics partner Kids in Distressed Situations, TIF distributed toys and games to children in all 50 states on a single day.

Summer Toy Drive Garners Record-Breaking Donations

The Toy Industry Foundation’s Summer Toy Drive, held from May 1 to August 31, collected nearly 290,000 toys.

Thanks to the toy manufacturers, retailers, and distributors who participated in this year’s drive, TIF’s Toy Bank received 59 percent more toys than last year. This year’s gifts also surged in value by 425 percent–$6.5 million worth of playthings were donated versus $1.2 million last year.

“With the help of our generous donors, we were able to deliver playthings to 44 children’s charities in The Toy Bank network across the country, as well as to children living on 17 military bases,” says Foundation Coordinator Melissa Kipp. “The significant increase in donations allowed us to bring play to 107,000 more disadvantaged children than last summer!”

The Toy Bank is a year-round program; it is currently collecting for the final two Play Comforts events for military children in 2012 and is preparing for the next trade show collection at Fall Toy Preview in Dallas (October 2 to 4).
