Tamagotchi Celebrates 17 Years with New Tamagotchi Friends

TamagotchiFriendslogoBandai is set to relaunch Tamagotchi under the brand Tamagotchi Friends, supported by new devices, technology, and an immersive portfolio of interactive lifestyle products. Tamagotchi Friends will launch with animated webisodes debuting globally on November 23 to coincide with Tamagotchi’s 17th birthday, and supported by a phased rollout of a new website.

Since its debut, Tamagotchi has sold more than 79 million units in 44 versions worldwide, and remains the No. 1 character brand for girls ages 7 to 9 in Japan, as well as a top nostalgic brand in the U.S. The Tamagotchi Friends brand will include physical products, including Digital Friends, apparel, and apps; as well as a virtual world on social media at tamagotchifriends.com, where global visitors can connect to the characters and get to know them.

Bandai will introduce the Tamagotchi Friends portfolio of Digital Friends and other toys globally, with product reaching European retailers beginning in late December, followed by the U.S. market next fall.

Skylanders Announces Beta Launch of its Virtual World

Activision Publishing, Inc. has launched Skylanders Spyro’s Universe, in beta, which will add another dimension to Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure. The virtual world allows kids to engage with Skylanders characters and fellow players.

Found online at www.universe.skylanders.com, the Universe is a fantasy realm of floating islands designed to encourage world-building, exploration, and friendly competition. Players who own the game or figures can input each figure’s code, or use the Portal of Power, to bring them to life inside the universe.

Stardoll Partners with Barbie for Global Doll Line

Stardoll, the global online fashion and gaming community for girls, has partnered with Barbie to bring the world of virtual dress-up and online play to life with the new “Stardoll by Barbie” line of collectible fashion dolls. Kidlandia Announces Online Game, Plush, and Mobile App

Kidlandia has announced the launch of its first online game, plush toys, and a mobile app. Kidlandia Kingdoms Digital Playground, the online game, is filled with whimsical Kreechurs and their environments. While creating their own world, players can earn Kaploons, which allows them to buy objects and characters to enhance the game.

Also new this month are the Kidlandia plush toys, which have a hang tag with a unique online code. The code allows consumers to connect directly to the online game in which the Kreechurs come to life in the online world.

The online game also connects to the new mobile app, Spikanunk’s Run. This arcade-style scrolling game extends the Kidlandia experience on the go. Players help Spikanunk avoid obstacles and can earn rewards along the way. The app is available on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
