This morning, Activision Publishing Inc. officially announced the latest installment of its Guitar Hero series, Guitar Hero Live, intended to reflect modern trends in both music and video game consumption. The new game marks the franchise’s return after a five-year hiatus.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, and The LEGO Group will launch LEGO Dimensions, which merges physical Lego brick building with interactive console game play. Scheduled for release on September 27, the game will fuse a number of fan-favorite LEGO universes together, including DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, Back to the Future, and more.

Minecraft players can bring the TV world of Springfield to life in cubic glory, now that Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Xbox have launched The Simpsons content packs for Minecraft Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions. As reported by Wal-Mart this past Tuesday, Cyber Monday was the retailer’s biggest online day for orders in its history. Customers viewed more than 1.5 billion pages on walmart.com between Thanksgiving and December 1, aka Cyber Monday, with mobile accounting for approximately 70 percent of traffic to the site between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.
Walmart.com’s best-selling Cyber Monday items included the PlayStation 4 500 GB Console Bundle with Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and LittleBigPlanet 3; the Nintendo 3DS XL New Super Mario Bros 2 Limited Edition Handheld; the Xbox One Assassins Creed Unity Bundle; the Skywalker Trampolines 12-Foot Round Trampoline and Safety Enclosure with Blue Spring Pad; and the Lego Giant Creative Tower, with 1,600 pieces and storage box.
This year, more than 100 Cyber Monday specials were available for free same-day pickup at Wal-Mart stores, and orders with same-day pickups increased 70 percent over last year.
The Monopoly Family Fun Pack bundle, from Hasbro Inc. and Ubisoft, is now available to purchase worldwide on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 systems. Available both digitally and at retailers, it features the Monopoly Plus, My Monopoly, and Monopoly Deal console games.
Monopoly Plus features a colorful, 3-D animated board, and gives groups of up to six players the opportunity to choose their own adventure and tailor each game to their specific playing style. The Xbox One version can be purchased as a standalone download, and additional versions on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 will be available to download later this year.
Monopoly Deal is a new take on the fast-dealing property trading action of the Monopoly game, in which the first player to gather three complete property sets of different colors wins the game. Monopoly Deal will be available as a standalone download for Sony and Microsoft consoles later this year.
Kids can now jump, dance, and play along with the Rabbids in Ubisoft‘s latest video game, Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show. Available on Kinect for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360, and PlayStation Camera for PlayStation 4, Rabbids Invasion allows kids and families to use their system’s motion camera to interact with each episode as they watch.
The game includes more than 400 challenges to complete in 20 episodes such as “Rabbids Launcher,” “Chicken Dance,” “Run Rabbid,” and “Bwaaah-meter.” The augmented reality capsules also bring the Rabbids into any living room, allowing players to take selfies and capture memorable moments.
Developed by Ubisoft Barcelona in collaboration with Ubisoft Casablanca and Ubisoft Paris studios, the interactive video game is based on the Rabbids Invasion TV series created by Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
Pre-sales of the fighting game for Wii U, which arrives at stores on November 21, surpassed Mario Kart 8, and interest in the game has generated optimism at Nintendo. Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, said in an interview on Tuesday that sell-through expectations for Super Smash Bros. are on par with Mario Kart 8, which could have a dramatic impact on hardware.
Mario Kart 8 has sold 3.49 million units, including 2.74 million outside Japan, and Wii U console sales more than doubled from a year earlier to 1.12 million devices in the six months ended September. So far this year, Nintendo has sold 2 million Wii U units, according to the site VGChartz. The Wii U posted its first consecutive quarterly sales gains in the June and September periods.
Super Smash Bros. is the first Nintendo title that will also support amiibo, the company’s entry into the $1 billion interactive toy category, scheduled for release in time for the holidays.
