Cupcake Digital Develops Yo Gabba Gabba! App Series for Preschoolers

DHX Media has selected Cupcake Digital Inc. to develop a new series of kids’ apps featuring the characters from Yo Gabba Gabba!. Cupcake Digital will create deluxe activity apps designed for kids ages 5 and under.

The first Cupcake Digital Yo Gabba Gabba! app will launch this winter, as part of DHX Media’s comprehensive Yo Gabba Gabba! marketing and licensing strategy, which kicks off with the first live holiday tour and A Very Awesome Yo Gabba Gabba! Christmas DVD, featuring two original episodes, “A Very Awesome Christmas Special” and “Christmas.”

The app is inspired by the tune “There’s a Party in My Tummy.” The app will feature DJ Lance Rock and Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee. The activities within the app offer a variety of creative and imaginative ways for kids to learn about healthy foods and encourage kids to try them. The app will be available day-and-date on iTunes, AmazonGoogle Play, and the Barnes & Noble for Nook store.

Celebrate the Holidays with New Yo Gabba Gabba! LIVE! Holiday Show

DHX MEDIA YO GABBA GABBA HOLIDAY LOGODHX Media and tour producer S2BN Entertainment announced the first ever Yo Gabba Gabba! LIVE! holiday show. A Very Awesome Yo Gabba Gabba! LIVE! Holiday Show Presented by Citi will rock the preschool, parents, and young adult set in nine cities across the U.S. this year. Enthusiastic fans of all ages have the opportunity to see the characters come to life on stage for a live show experience like no other. Presale tickets for Citi credit and debit card members will be on sale beginning August 6 through Citi’s Private Pass Program at citiprivatepass.com. Public sale begins August 12. Citi card member preferred ticket sale begins August 13. Now in its fourth season on Nick Jr., Yo Gabba Gabba! is a live-action TV series and live stage show whose unconventional formula has created a triple stacked fan base. Jazwares will introduce new Yo Gabba Gabba! figures, plush, and electronics to the Toys “R” Us toy aisles this year. Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! To Tour the Country

Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! : Get The Sillies Out! will visit 50 cities across the U.S. next year. The live stage show is based on the live-action television series that airs several times a day on Nick Jr. Yo Gabba Gabba! was created by Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz and is executive produced by John Berrett and Michael Polis. The live stage show is touring in support of the first national beverage launch, a new line of toys, a new line of kids sportswear, and a DVD/CD collector’s edition.

DHX Media Acquires Cookie Jar Entertainment

DHX Media has acquired the business of Cookie Jar Entertainment to create Canada’s largest independent children’s entertainment company. The deal will be completed in mid-October, subject to a number of conditions including shareholder and regulatory approvals.

Properties will include Yo Gabba Gabba!, Rastamouse, Franny’s Feet, Animal Mechanicals,  Kid vs. Kat, Angela Anaconda, Martha Speaks, as well as Caillou, Inspector Gadget, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, The Doodlebops, and Johnny Test.

The transaction implies an enterprise value for Cookie Jar of $111 million. DHX expects to realize cost synergies, which should be achieved within the first year following the closing of the transaction.

New Licensees for Wildbrain’s Yo Gabba Gabba!

Wildbrain Entertainment has signed seven new licensing deals for its hit series Yo Gabba Gabba!. Funko, manufacturer of entertainment bobblehead products, vinyl action figures, and plush toys, will develop a line of Yo Gabba Gabba! collectible toys, available at specialty, department stores, and mass retailers nationwide starting in April. Nyko, manufacturer of accessories for Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and 3DS, will develop game accessories and an all-new DS docking station/alarm clock for the property, which will be available across all retail channels late next year. Press Pass, Inc., the trading card and licensed collectibles company, will develop a line of Yo Gabba Gabba! trading cards that will be sold across all distribution channels starting in February.

Clue, Scrabble, The Game of Life, and More Join The Hub’s Upcoming Lineup

Nine new original programs will join The Hub’s 2011-2012 lineup, announced president and CEO Margaret Loesch at the network’s upfront meeting in New York City last week. The new series include The Aquabats Super Show, from the creators of Yo Gabba Gabba; Blythe Loves The Littlest Pet Shop (working title), inspired by the Littlest Pet Shop brand; Clue, featuring six teens who are brought together when they believe they’ve witnessed a terrible crime; The Game of Life, a live-action family game show; and Scrabble Showdown, another family game show.

Additionally, The Hub is adding Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters (working title), Majors & Minors (working title); Rescue Bots (working title); Secret Millionaire’s Club; and has acquired Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

Returning series include The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, Animal Mechanicals, Dan Vs., Family Game Night, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Pound Puppies, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series, Strawberry Shortcake’s Berry Bitty Adventures, Transformers Prime, and The WotWots.

DHX Media Acquires W!LDBRAIN Entertainment

DHX Media, an international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, has acquired W!LDBRAIN Entertainment, the LA-based entertainment company that produces and animates The Ricky Gervais Show for HBO and turned Yo Gabba Gabba! into a franchise. Michael Polis will continue to lead W!LDBRAIN Entertainment as president. He will also serve as executive vice-president, branded entertainment and consumer products, DHX Media, where he will also lead DHX Media’s international licensing activities.
