The Topps Co. and usaopoly (The Op) inked a new licensing agreement for the Garbage Pail Kids (GPK).
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the famed GPK crew, The Op will release Monopoly: Garbage Pail Kids, a quirky take on Hasbro‘s classic real estate trading game.
In the game, players will vie to collect famous characters from the GPK trading cards and stickers of the ’80s and ’90s, including Adam Bomb and Leaky Lindsay. The Monopoly tokens have been replaced with six collectible movers, including the overflowing garbage can, fish bones, melting eyeball, guillotine, swirly dog poop, and zit goo tube. Players will use the movers to navigate the game board on each turn.
“As long-time fans of Garbage Pail Kids, we are excited that other fans of this pop culture classic will be able to immerse themselves in, and enjoy the iconic tabletop Monopoly gameplay experience,” says Haggy Maggie aka Maggie Matthews, The Op’s senior vice president of licensing.
GPK artist Joe Simko returns to provide colorful box art that fully embraces the legacy of the brand.
IncrudibleIra aka Ira Friedman, Topps’ vice president of global licensing says that this is a perfect game for kids who grew up during the original GPK craze. “Today, many of those young fans are nostalgically reliving childhood memories and reconnecting with the brand,” she says. “They’re going to get a kick out of this bold mashup between GPK and Monopoly.”
Monopoly: Garbage Pail Kids will be available at specialty retailers this spring.
