The Pokémon Co. International is beginning a new philanthropic initiative.

The company responsible for managing the Pokémon brand outside of Asia is donating a minimum of $25 million over the next five years. The donations will be given to a predetermined group of organizations that help to create equitable communities, support children, or both.

“The Pokémon Company International is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the communities in which it operates and where Pokémon has been so warmly received since it was first introduced,” says Kenji Okubo, president of The Pokémon Co. International. “We are dedicated to leveraging that unique ability and the support we’ve received from our broad community of Trainers to be a positive force in the lives of children and create a more equitable, inclusive world in which all can flourish.”

The donation of Pokémon Center and Pokémon Trading Card Game products will also be included in the effort. They will be provided to organizations that can distribute toys and games to the families and children who need them.

The organizations selected span three geographic categories — global (operate without borders), regional (operate in countries where the Pokémon brand has a significant presence), and local (serve the local communities). The Pokémon Co. International intends to support these organizations year after year in long-term strategic partnerships. Other organizations may also be added over the course of the initiative.
